A mother-of-four has revealed her horror experience with an abusive partner who shot her four times and left her to die by the side of the road.

Amy*, a Melbourne woman, was on holiday in Ethiopia with her two children and new partner Birsha*, seeing her family as a way to protect herself from his wrath.

The couple met after Amy’s loving ex-partner died of cancer and were swept off her feet by the smooth-talking Birsha.

His anger would only surface after she moved in with him, hitting her with a hot iron and saying that men in Australia can easily get away with femicide.

Months later, she was alone in the car with him after sunset in Africa, under the guise of seeing a mountain range before seeing a gun in his pants.

Amy said he then said the ten chilling words: “We’re not going home. Today is your last day.’

A mother-of-five has revealed how she narrowly avoided death at the hands of her abusive partner while on holiday to Ethiopia, thinking she could escape his wrath

Amy moved to Australia in 2008 as a mother of three and worked as a make-up artist and hairdresser before Birsha tore her life apart.

Some warning signs started to emerge in their relationship when his abusive nature surfaced. 7News reported.

She said Birsha said if she ever called the police, he would “slit her throat” before they could arrive.

During one incident, a neighbor heard Amy’s screams and called the police, leading to her begging them to tell Birsha that she was not the one who called.

He would father two of her children before the topic of a family vacation came up and Amy realized he was suggesting countries with relaxed gun laws.

She suggested Ethiopia – where weapons can be purchased – to visit her family, believing they could help her and her children escape before he could kill her.

They arrived in late 2019 and were stuck in the country as international borders were closed during the Covid pandemic.

Instead of fleeing Birsha’s violence, he put Amy in a car and told her his plan to kill her and report her missing before putting a bullet in her leg.

“She got out of the car and followed her through the car and shot her three more times in the legs as she tried to run away and begged for her life.” GoFundMe because Amy reads.

‘Amy fell to the ground and began to lose consciousness as he drove away, leaving her for dead.

“Fortunately, a Good Samaritan found her after hearing gunshots, called for help, wrapped her legs in his clothes and took her to a hospital where time was of the essence.”

Amy required 21 blood transfusions and six hours of surgery to remove the bullets, but one is still lodged in her leg.

She is now disabled from the attack, with “pieces of her muscle and tissue missing and permanent nerve damage.”

Her family was able to put her on a plane back to Australia, heartbreakingly without her children, hoping to reunite with them once she has properly healed.

However, she cannot afford all the medical care she needs and now lives in women’s shelters, unable to properly care for her due to a lack of funding.

Amy, an Australian citizen, is still waiting for Centrelink and NDIS applications to be approved to help her.

A friend of hers has created a GoFundMe for Amy to help her with her rehabilitation.
