A mother has sparked a debate after revealing that her children feel “handicapped” at Christmas, even though she is spending £700 on each of them on gifts.
TikTok blogger Karen, from Oldham, explained in a video who combines her children’s birthday presents with their Christmas presents, but makes up for it by buying them expensive treats.
After his children complained that the agreement was unfair, he asked other parents how much they spent on their own children.
Some said they were actually spending up to £1,000 on each of their children, while others said they were budgeting between £80 and £100 per child on their own offspring. Some said everyone should spend according to what they have, regardless of other families’ budgets.
Karen asked people if they had “a ballpark figure in mind” for how much they spent on their children’s gifts.
‘Because my children feel they are being mistreated.’
‘So your combined amount is £500. That’s for his Christmas and her birthday. I am buying a few extra bits from them, so it will work out to £700 each,” she said.
‘How much do you spend for your children’s birthdays?’ she asked.
