I sold our home without telling my wife,  and I don’t understand why she is upset

A man who sold his family home without telling his wife has been branded a ‘bastard’ with ‘not an ounce of dignity’.

The anonymous man, who is probably from the US, started working on it Reddit‘s AITA forum, questioning whether he was wrong to sell the marital home.

He explained that he and his wife had amassed “substantial wealth” before tying the knot.

For them, it only made sense to sign a prenuptial agreement that would ensure that their assets would remain completely separate.

After two years of discussions about moving to a quieter town near the coast, the couple bought a house.

The man does not understand why his wife is angry that he has been kept in the dark about such an ‘important decision’. He justified his actions by stating that he is the sole owner of the property and that both he and his wife have completely separate assets as per their prenuptial agreement (stock image)

But Reddit users are baffled by the man’s “selfishness” and “lack of communication” after he said he kept his wife completely in the dark about the sale of their home.

The man explained that he was the sole owner of the house they had lived in for the past few years.

Because they had purchased their new home two months earlier, furnished it, and made the upgrades they desired, the husband saw no need to tell his wife about the sale of their current home, believing it would be “solely (his) ) property’.

He also claims he didn’t want to annoy his wife with the “stressful process” of selling a property.

The man also thought it was illogical to keep their current home while buying a new one because neither of them would continue to live in the city.

But on the day of the sale, he was shocked to discover that his wife was seething when he told her he had flogged the house.

The man struggled to see how he had done anything wrong and pointed out that he still has a “beautiful apartment” in the city where she could stay.

However, the woman remained upset, feeling that he was not treating her as a partner because she was completely excluded from such an important judgment.

Still stunned at his wife’s dismay, the man added, “I don’t think I left her without an address in town, and the house was always solely my property, just as she has her own wealth.”

Reddit users expressed their outrage at the man’s clinical behavior towards his partner, with one person writing: ‘W** is your marriage. It sounds more like a business deal than a relationship…’

Another joked: ‘Even in a business relationship there would be better communication than this…’

Others were so shocked by the man’s behavior that they claimed the post must be ‘fake’.

Some even labeled the action as the man’s attempt to “exercise control,” insinuating that he was devoid of “the slightest ounce of decency.”

One person stated: ‘She has memories, associations and probably had plans for the future related to them.’

Another commented: ‘It’s your place to do what you want. But if you cared about your wife, you would have included her in the decision.”

While others waited for the impending demise of the relationship, with one person saying: ‘Please post an update if she divorces you,’ while another joked: ‘Rich people problems lol.’
