I shower in front of my 18 year old daughter and she has seen me naked since she was a baby – people say it’s wrong but I’m teaching her body confidence

A mother still showers in front of her 18-year-old daughter – to show her what a real body looks like.

Angela Karanja, 48, from Banbury, Oxfordshire, has been undressing in front of Dee since she was a child.

She doesn’t want to stop now, even though Dee is an adult, because she wants to teach her to be comfortable in her own skin.

Psychologist Angela said she wants her daughter to know that bodies on social media are not real.

Psychologist Angela Karanja,48, and her daughter Dee,18, from Banbury. They shower and bathe together to promote body positivity

Angela said she was determined to teach her daughter to feel comfortable in her own skin and that bathing together had played a big role

She said, “Our bodies are the vessels in which we must live. This is what we have, we should be happy and proud of it.

“Especially for girls, I think if we don’t show them what’s real as they get older, they’re going to be subjected to a lot of photoshopped pictures and think that they’re not enough.

“My idea is to show them what is real and when they see an edited photo it doesn’t threaten them and they know they are enough.”

Daughter, Dee Karanja, 18, a student, said: ‘This makes me feel comfortable because I now know what the reality is like.

Angela said her daughter is “confident” and “happy” in her body thanks to her efforts

Angela and Dee brush their teeth together. The pair regularly take baths and showers together, and Angela said being naked doesn’t “reveal” anything. It just shows her true self

Dee said her mother’s efforts taught her body self-confidence and respect for herself

‘We may not always love our bodies, but we still have to respect them because we only get one body.

“If we love our bodies, no matter what anyone says, you won’t feel bad about yourself.”

Angela said showering in front of her daughter from a young age has helped her daughter become more “confident” and “happier” in her body.

She said: “We need to help our young people feel comfortable with who they are.

‘It is so beautiful to see how her confidence in her own self has grown.

Angela said she will happily walk around the house naked first thing in the morning to go to the bathroom

Dee doesn’t mind seeing her mother naked in the house because she was raised that way to boost her self-confidence.

“We know people have different body shapes and all kinds, don’t forget things fall south.

‘It is important to show that people are changing.’

Angela said she will also walk around the house naked, and her daughter is not impressed by this as she was raised with this.

“Tomorrow morning I’ll wake up and walk to the bathroom naked,” she said.

‘This is me, this is who I am before I wear clothes.

“If we come to terms with who we are, there is nothing that threatens you.

‘Confidence isn’t about the clothes I wear or the makeup I have.

“Don’t get me wrong, I wear nice clothes, but it’s not to hide or make people think I’m someone else.”

Angela said people will tell her she’s brave and some people will wonder why she does it.

She said she always chooses to “inform” people about why she does it, rather than argue with them.

Angela said: ‘People tell me I’m exposing children to something they shouldn’t see.

‘I said, “Okay, you’re telling me my kids can’t know I have boobs or a butt?”

‘When I’m naked, it’s not like I’m opening myself up. It’s me, it’s me.

“Those who object say I shouldn’t show them my role, but children should feel comfortable.”

Recently, Bradley Cooper revealed that his father was “always naked” and “would take showers with him” when he was a child.

Bradley said this makes him comfortable being naked when his six-year-older daughter is around.
