I showed my boyfriend the perfect engagement ring but he got me THIS instead. I hate it and he doesn’t know… should I tell him?
What should have been one of the greatest moments of a woman's life has been tainted after her now fiancé proposed to her with a ring she “hates.”
The 27-year-old has been with her partner for three years and the couple started talking about marriage 18 months later.
The woman showed her then-boyfriend exactly the kind of ring she wanted—silver or white gold and inspired by nature with twists in the band that resemble leaves—but she received a marquise diamond with round side stones set in yellow gold.
“My fiance asked me to marry him this weekend, and I feel like I should be over the moon, but I can't seem to get over the ring,” she shared on Reddit.
'Two months ago we were looking at rings and I'm sure he knew what I wanted. He said he was saving money and just wanted to get a promotion to get things moving.”
A woman was devastated when her fiancé proposed to her with a ring she 'hated' – and revealed it was the 'complete opposite' of her dream jewel

She also said that the proposal itself was “bland” and did not stir any emotions in her at all.
“My brother dropped a hint that I would be proposed to soon, so I was very excited,” she said.
Her partner had planned a deer hunt and a haunted hotel for her birthday, so she expected this proposal to be the icing on the cake of her 'perfect' romantic weekend.
“He asked me in the middle of the woods while hunting and said, 'Do you want to do that with me?' that's an Avatar: the Last Airbender reference and pretty sweet.
“But it's definitely not how I hoped and dreamed I would be proposed to. And the ring is gold. My family loves it, so why can't I feel it too?'
The woman claimed she “hates” being rude, but she also didn't want to spend the rent of her life wearing a ring she didn't like.
'Would I be an asshole if I told my fiancée that I didn't like my ring? Or will I eventually learn to love it?' she asked.
Many accused the man of not listening to his partner and going 'rogue' with the ring.
“That's why I didn't keep it a secret and let her pick out her ring herself,” one man said.
“That ring is worn, gold and gaudy,” one woman wrote. “It doesn't suit your skin color at all.”
'Are you arranging? Between the low-effort proposal and what appears to be a family ring, it actually comes across as a commitment proposal. It's really not that hard to listen to what your partner wants and find something that suits them,” one person noted.
While others called her 'selfish' because she was not happy with what she received.
“I think he should take the ring and leave you,” one woman wrote. “You should be happy that he asked her to marry you and not complain about the ring.”
'Superficial. You like the idea of being engaged more than actually being engaged. Your marriage won't last, I can see that from a mile away,” said another.
