A mischievous puppy became as sick as a dog after secretly swallowing three of her owner’s socks.
Molly, a 10-month-old Bernedoodle, was rushed to the vet by her owner Kerrylee Hempenstall, 50, when she started gagging and refusing to eat.
Kerylee, from Ballybrack, Dublin, described her shock at realizing what had caused Molly’s illness when the vet showed her an X-ray of the dog’s stomach.
Fortunately, she received prompt treatment and is now on the road to full recovery and is already back to her ‘bubbly’ self.

The relieved owner said: ‘We realized something was wrong when Molly started vomiting and became very still.
‘However, we were very shocked to hear that this was because she had eaten three socks.’
An X-ray showed a “large bundle of foreign material” in her stomach.
Vets decided to operate and were stunned when they pulled out three gnawed socks – as was Kerrylee, who had no idea she was missing them.

After a short stay at the vets following the procedure last month, Molly was sent home and is expected to make a full recovery.
“She’s back to her bubbly self now,” Kerrylee added.
Molly was taken to Linnaeus’ Primrose Hill Veterinary Hospital in Sallynoggin, County Dublin, and vet Katie Dwan said it was one of the most bizarre cases the clinic has treated – made even trickier because the socks were all separated in the intestines. the puppy.
She said: ‘We x-rayed Molly to see if there was a foreign body causing her symptoms and although we couldn’t see anything, she did have a gas pattern in her abdomen, which indicated there was a blockage.
‘I performed an exploratory laparotomy (surgical incision in the abdominal cavity) to identify and retrieve the foreign body blocking Molly’s digestive tract and quickly realized that Molly had swallowed three socks.

‘The tricky part was that all three were in different parts of her digestive tract, with two of them linearly intertwined in the proximal duodenum (first part of the small intestine).
‘This made the operation a little more complicated than we initially expected, as it required two procedures – a gastrotomy and an enterotomy – to safely remove the socks.
‘Molly recovered in the hospital emergency room, but was bouncing around the surgery again the second day after surgery, looking for more things to eat, and she is now happily back home.’
