Aella, from Idaho, reflected on the past 12 months on Twitter, but the piece of information that caught people’s attention was how infrequently she washed.
In response to a commenter who questioned her hygiene routine, Aella said she tries “not to disturb my skin’s natural microbiome too much.”
The 27-year-old claims she doesn’t ‘stink’ due to a balance of ‘microbiome’, which is a collection of bacteria and fungi that live in the body.
Aella (pictured), from Idaho, United States, reflected on the last 12 months on social media, but the information that caught people’s attention was how infrequently she washed.
In a Twitter thread, he wrote: “If a random person who shampoos every day stops doing it, their hair will be horrible and greasy.” But if you are persistent and careful, your body adapts.
“But this isn’t perfect, and different people have different body types, with different activities and sweat levels. I still do maintenance to manage the stink between showers!
‘I’m careful not to use soap on my armpits, because that seems to add to the odor; I usually scrub hard with a damp washcloth and then put on deodorant, and this works really well. I also use a bidet and wash my genitals frequently.
She added that she doesn’t use body moisturizer because she lives in a humid area, which helps keep her skin cool.

Twitter users were divided in their response to Aella’s post, with some supporting her while many others were concerned.
One person said: ‘Isn’t it possible that you’ve gone blind?’
A second added: ‘Our nervous system has evolved to become progressively less sensitive to a stimulus, the longer it persists. You smell, girl. You just can’t smell yourself.
One user agreed with Aella saying: ‘I don’t shower often either and I agree. Also, since I started washing my hair infrequently, the texture and volume have improved significantly.
Another added: ‘I showered maybe ten times in 2022 and I don’t stink. Obviously, I wear clean clothes and wash my hands and face more often, but showering every day is completely unnecessary and makes you smell worse.
‘Ignore the haters on this. Notice how everyone is focused on the ‘smell’. So what, even if you smelled. Nothing bad happens. As long as you keep your hands and ass clean.
Some scientists have said that while it may be acceptable for social reasons, showering every day is not vital.
Consultant Derrick Phillips told HealthLine: “Washing once a day is enough for most children and adults to maintain a socially acceptable level of personal hygiene and cleanliness,” he says.
“Skin self-cleanses and exfoliates naturally,” he says. “Scrubbing helps remove physical dirt and reinforces the perception of cleanliness, but it’s not necessary.”
