I moved from Sydney to a small country town and noticed a huge difference: ‘I can’t undo it’
- One Kiwi noticed big differences between Australian towns and cities
- Maddie Gibbons, 30, said “everyone” drives a white car
- “Seriously, it’s like The Truman Show in here,” she said
A New Zealander has pointed out a strange difference she noticed between small towns and big cities in Australia.
Maddie Gibbons, 30, moved to the Australian bush after a stay in Sydney and couldn’t help but notice the sheer number of white cars in the area.
“Sincere question for anyone who doesn’t live in a city in Australia: explain to me, what about all those white cars?” she said.
“Seriously, it’s like The Truman Show in here. Everyone is in a white car. And I’m not just talking about agricultural products. I’ll show you what I mean.’
Maddie Gibbons noticed something strange after moving to a small Australian town. The 30-year-old, who is originally from New Zealand, says the majority of people drive white cars
Maddie then got out and filmed the cars around her – all of which were white.
The short clip showed cars parked on suburban streets and parking garages, and most of them were four-wheel drive, utes or sedans.
‘I’ve only seen one other color car and it was—God forbid—silver. Must belong to the village idiot,” Maddie continued.
However, others living in rural areas offered an explanation by commenting on the video shared on TikTok.
Riddle me this: what’s with all those white cars? Seriously, it’s like The Truman Show around here. Everyone is in a white car,” she said in a TikTok video
TikTok users who live in rural areas said white cars are generally “cheaper”, “easier to clean”, are “cooler in the summer” and “look nicer” compared to other colors
“They are cheaper to buy, cooler in the summer and normally look cleaner for longer than a color car,” said one.
‘If you live in the countryside, they are easiest and cheapest to find. You can normally get a bargain on dealer displays that are white,” another noted.
A third agreed, saying that white cars are “easier to clean” if they are driven on unpaved roads every day.
Another said that if the car gets a scratch, it is cheaper to repair it at car dealerships.
After 13 hours, the video had been viewed more than 69,000 times.
