I matched with my dead wife on Tinder… her profile had pictures of her that I’d never seen before

Of all the places you might expect to have a paranormal experience, from cemeteries to haunted houses, dating apps aren’t usually on the list.

However, one man’s ghost story about matching with his dead wife on Tinder has been seen by more than 6.5 million people in less than a week.

The terrifying story was read out Ghost Huns podcast and later shared with them TikTok account @ghosthunspod, where it received almost 3,000 comments.

Host Suzie Preece read the disturbing story from the perspective of a man named Derek.

She reads: ‘I just matched with my late wife on Tinder. I had swiped left in a daze so many times in a row that I almost missed it, I wish I had.

The terrifying story was read on the Ghost Huns podcast and later shared on their TikTok account @ghosthunspod, where it received almost 3,000 comments.

‘My wife Alison has been dead for two full years, but there she was on Tinder, smiling at me in a photo I’d never seen.

“I looked through her profile, there was nothing written on it, but three other photos of my late wife that I had never seen before, including one with the Statue of Liberty behind her, even though I knew she had never been to New York City , at least to my knowledge.

“I swiped right and breathed for the first time in almost two minutes.

‘I had trouble sleeping for the next 48 hours, never got a match, was ready to message Tinder and tell them that someone was impersonating my beloved dead wife on the app and doing some sort of magical photoshop to insert her photos. ‘

Continuing with the man’s story, she said, “The match took place at 3:33 am. There was a message, just a simple ‘hello’.

‘I crushed the letters on my phone as hard and fast as I could – who is this? why are you doing this? where did you get these pictures of my wife, she died two years ago from cervical cancer, you monster.’

The man then waited another 24 hours before receiving a response, which came in the middle of the night saying, “Derek, I miss you.” I’m sorry for what happened.”

The podcast host read: “But she died of natural causes, there was no way she could have controlled it and was I supposed to believe that the ghost of my late wife decided to inhabit a Tinder profile and point it out to me?”

Derek then received a message ‘are you home? I’m outside?’ and “please let me in” as Suzie read that his “blood ran cold.”

‘Someone had to have it with me, but who would be so cruel and devilish? There may have been a few people who didn’t like me at work, but no one would get that far.

The hosts then reveal that the man received another message saying “Never mind, I’m in,” prompting them to scream in fear.

Suzie read on: ‘I heard the front door of my house close and I tensed in bed – another message ‘you’re on Tinder too early Derry’, the pet name only the two use between each other.

“The logistics of who knew that name flashed through my mind as I heard footsteps approaching my bedroom door.

The man received a new message that read, “You were supposed to mourn me, not that damn 23 year old on Tinder.”

Adding: ‘It even followed Alison’s whim to underline each message impeccably.

“I finally said ‘Alison, I’m sorry, I love you, I miss you.’ My stomach has been bothering me for two years, but I had to move on.’

‘I felt someone on the other side of the door, and then I heard footsteps walking away.

‘I walked out to the front door and looked outside, there were no signs of life – I went back to my phone in the bedroom, Alison’s profile had been deleted.’

Commenters were shocked by the creepy story, with one person writing: ‘This isn’t real is it???’ with shocked emojis.

Someone else added: “That’s why my husband and I have a secret password after death.”

Someone who claimed to have had a similar experience commented: “My late partner put a song on Amazon pkaylist. I also changed my Pinterest account to a pet name that only we knew. I believe this 100%’.

Others said: ‘Derek needs to update part two because I’m too invested now’ and ‘333am is not a good sign’.
