I kissed a girl on our first date and my lips started to burn – I was shocked to learn why it hurt

  • Ottie Clarke kissed a woman on a first date and his lips started to burn
  • The Australian man couldn’t understand why and thought he was allergic to her

A single man described his shock after his lips started to “burn” immediately after kissing his date.

Ottie Clarke co-hosts a podcast with his friend Jake Craig in which the duo often discuss their dating life.

On a recent episode of the show, Ottie revealed that he got a strange “burning sensation” after kissing a woman on a first date.

Ottie internally struggled with the fiery tingling and briefly thought he might be allergic to his date – but she soon explained the situation after the Australian man brought it up.

The woman was simply wearing lip gloss, which contains mild irritants that cause blood vessels to expand, causing a person’s lips to swell temporarily.

Ottie shared details of the experience in a video.

“I was out with a woman, and like all good dates, it ended with a kiss,” he said.

“We started meeting in the car, and then we drove off and started talking again — but my lips started burning.

‘In my head I thought: what the f***? I went through the evening in my head – did we order pizza with jalapeños on it? Am I allergic to my date? What is going on?’

Ottie finally gave in and asked his date why her lips were “hot.”

The man then turned to a friend and explained the concept of “lip plumpers.”

“Did you know girls use lip balm that’s spicy and meant to puff your lips in response to make them look bigger?” Ottie asked Jake.

A single man was shocked when his lips started to ‘burn’ as if someone had rubbed jalapeños on them immediately after kissing his date

“I thought I was the biggest b***h but it just fucking hurt,” he said.

Ottie revealed that most of his male friends had no idea about lip glosses.

“I can’t believe girls put on lip balm and purposely give themselves an allergic reaction to make their lips look bigger,” Jake said in bewilderment.

Many women shared their fondness for the makeup item.

“Like I knew she was wearing lip plumper as soon as he said his lips hurt!” said a woman.

“Love the burn, it’s just a little tingling lip gloss that makes your lips puff up,” wrote another.

“I can’t even feel anything when I put it on, but I love the way it looks,” said one woman.

Another shared that her boyfriend had a similar reaction when he kissed her while wearing a chubby gloss.

“My boyfriend pretended his lips fell off,” she revealed.

While some men couldn’t understand why women would use full glosses before dates.

“I understand why you want to make your lips look bigger, but why wear it when you know you’re going to kiss a man?” asked one.

“I don’t understand why women do these things,” said another.
