I just got back from my honeymoon and am planning to end the marriage after my husband’s grim act: ‘Major red flag’
A couple’s honeymoon ended the day it ended after a distraught wife caught her husband behaving “concerningly” towards another woman.
The couple had befriended a woman traveling alone on their honeymoon and socialized with her, finding her “cool.”
“My husband commented on her post and let me know he was checking out her stories. He’s a lot more into social media than I am, so that didn’t raise any red flags,” the newlyweds said.
But curious, the suspicious wife couldn’t resist checking her husband’s private messages – as they have a strict ‘open phone’ policy in the relationship.
The woman was shocked to find no evidence of a conversation between her husband and the friend, which was ‘strange’ as the man had already admitted to exchanging a few polite texts with her.
“He tried to manipulate me at first by saying he didn’t delete it. He eventually admitted to deleting it, but he doesn’t admit it was inappropriate – He claims he got ‘nervous’ – and that’s his excuse,” she added.
The woman could not understand why her husband felt so uncomfortable with an innocent conversation and said she had now lost ‘all trust’ in him.
“Would I mind if I quit so soon because of something like that?” she asked on Reddit.
A woman wanted to end her marriage the day she returned from her honeymoon after catching her husband lying about a deleted message exchange with a female fellow traveler
Thousands of people weighed in on the desperate woman’s dilemma, with many saying she should ‘put an end to it now’.
“That is inexcusable, deceptive behavior at a time when a couple’s commitment is typically at its greatest — hence the term honeymoon period,” one woman said.
“I know two women who ended their marriages weeks after the wedding. Neither of them regrets it. Do it before you buy a house or have a child together, both of which are MUCH bigger commitments.”
Others agreed, saying the husband’s social contacts were a “big red flag” because he should have had eyes only for his wife, especially on their honeymoon.
They also felt that the messages couldn’t have been so ‘innocent’ if the cheating spouse had to delete them.
“Innocent chats don’t get deleted and people who have nothing to hide don’t get gaslighted,” one man said.
“So he deleted the evidence of his innocent conversation because an innocent conversation made him nervous? Always trust your gut,” another agreed.
Many said the suspicious behavior at such an early stage in the marriage was just a bad omen of things to come, and that it was probably “inevitable” that her husband would cheat, if he hadn’t already.
A few people felt that the woman should try to seduce her partner into confessing, to confirm once and for all that the message exchange was indeed as innocent as he claimed.
“Tell him, ‘I figured out how to retrieve your messages. Is there anything else you want to say about what I saw?’ If you act like you already know, you can often get a confession,” one man suggested.
But an ex-wife who had been in a similar situation warned the desperate woman not to pretend she knew more than she actually did.
“That’s how I found out my husband was having an affair. I’m sure you’re ready to discuss it.”
