I HATED every second of my job as a flight attendant – here’s why I finally quit after six years in the skies

A former flight attendant who quit after six years has revealed why she hated ‘every second’ of her job.

Utah’s Kat Kamalani shared on TikTok why the role “isn’t as glorious as it seems.”

The 33-year-old mother of two children criticized the hierarchical system, the intensive training and the demanding passengers, among other things.

And other social media users also claimed to have encountered similar problems when they worked in the industry as well.

In the clip, which has been viewed more than 330,000 times to date, Kat can be seen sitting in her car while speaking directly to the camera.

She begins, “I hated being a flight attendant so I quit.

‘I was a flight attendant for six years and worked for one of the largest airlines you could imagine.

“I hated every second of it.”

Kat goes on to explain why, explaining, “First of all, your entire life depends on your seniority – and what I mean by that is when you get hired, that’s the date you reached seniority and that determines everything.

‘It determines which plane you fly, which holidays you fly, whether you have weekends free, whether you can keep certain dates free.

“Another important aspect of why it’s so important is when you travel. You can book standby for my airline. This means that if there are empty seats on the plane, you can board based on your seniority.

“And I would say new is considered at least five years or less.”

Kat said the 'intense' training lasted two months and consisted of 'six days a week and 15 hour days'

The content creator, who now has over a million followers on the video sharing platform, continued: “The next thing is the workout is so intense. I had to train for two months – it was six days a week, we worked 15 hour days.

“You take a million different types of tests and if you don’t pass the tests within 80 percent, you get kicked out of the program.”

Another problem she said was simply “the people,” before adding, “People think flight attendants are only there to serve you drinks — and really, we’re there for your safety first.”

“People travel when they are in the toughest times of their lives. They’re sleep deprived, they’re traveling for an emergency or a funeral…

“It often happens that people are at their lowest when they’re traveling, and who gets the brunt of that?”

Her list didn’t end there, however, as Kim added that another problem is the “flights you have to fly.”

She said: ‘Everyone thinks when you fly at the start that you’re flying to Honolulu and Paris – and that may be the case.

“But usually you’re flying to three destinations a day, you have very short layovers and you wake up super early and get red eyes – it’s just not fun.”

I share my feelings/secrets about being a flight attendant for six years. Traveling the world with so much fun, but it comes at a cost, not to mention never having a routine or schedule. That is the same.

Briefly discussing the perks of the job, she said, “Back then, my husband and I couldn’t afford plane tickets around the world and had to visit all over the world.

‘I am so grateful for that and I was able to bring my parents and children.

“If you’re exploring the world alone on a layover, it’s a bit sad.”

Kim concluded, “That’s my take on why being a flight attendant isn’t as glorious as it seems.”

Another added: “The true side of it. Not to mention the jet lag and the major turbulence.’

And a third simply said: ‘This 100 percent. Somehow I felt exactly the same way.’
