‘I got lucky in a lot of ways’: Jeremy Renner opens up to Jimmy Kimmel after snow plow accident
Jeremy Renner says he was “lucky in many ways” in surviving a horrific snowplow accident on New Year’s Day.
The Marvel star, 52, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday, less than four months after he nearly died in a New Year’s Day snowplow accident that left him with more than 35 broken bones.
“We kept discovering them, because they went off the critical priority order of one of my dying before them, didn’t they?” the Modesto, California born actor. “Another pause, another pause.”
The Hawkeye star emerged in good spirits for the late night performance, saying he was ‘happy to be here’.
The Academy Award-nominated star described the mechanics of the snow plow accident, noting how lucky he was that critical parts of his anatomy were spared when he was caught under the weight of the machine.

“It’s like a giant metal cookie cutter, isn’t it?” he said. “And it just missed every vertebra, didn’t hit any organs, the membrane didn’t swell — my eye popped out, that’s weird.” But I’m lucky none of the organs got messed up.’
Renner has been open about his recovery – which could potentially take years – after the horrific Jan. 1 accident.
More than 30 bones in Renner’s body were broken in the Jan. 1 accident, leaving him initially in “critical condition” prior to multiple surgical procedures.
He made a valiant effort to protect his cousin Alex from harm at the time of the incident, saying his first thoughts were about his cousin’s trauma upon witnessing the harrowing ordeal.
Renner said, “I was thinking about Alex’s because he was there all the time and he had to put his Uncle Jeremy on the floor – I didn’t see any of this stuff but the blood and the thing and the eye, and all that stuff right? I had to see what his perspective was.’

On weekends, he and his family visited Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, where he posed for photos with family members at the popular theme park.’
He captioned a photo on Instagram, “Good Friday, magic made on the mountain with some of my amazing family! @sixflagsmagicmountain #thanks.”
He was spotted outing to Six Flags with his daughter Ava Berlin, 10. The actor kept a mobility scooter nearby to help with his trek through the sprawling theme park.
In March, Renner took to social media to share his progress with his physical recovery from the accident, as he was seen running on a treadmill on social media.
In addition to performing on Kimmel Monday, Renner will be walking the red carpet at the debut of his Disney+ show Rennervations on Tuesday.
Renner’s friend Rory Millikin, executive producer of the streaming service, said the actor has been surrounded by supportive family during his recovery from the snowplow accident.
“His mom is here all the time,” Millikin said People Friday. “I mean, his mother moved here to take care of her, just like mothers do. Mothers play such an incredible supporting role.”
He continued, “You should see this house — it’s just full of nieces, nephews and nieces and siblings. It’s like a beautiful big family complex and everyone has played a big part.’
