I got heavily inked in my 20s, now I’m 36 and I regret it – you shouldn’t get a tattoo until you’re a fully developed adult!
A woman has issued a warning to tattoo fans considering elaborate body art when they are still young.
Sara, 36, from Virginia, took to TikTok where she posted video to discuss how she felt about her body art.
She has two full sleeves and most of her upper body is inked, including patterns on her neck.
“Imagine, if you will, you once put on a shirt in your 20s, and now you have to wear it for the rest of your life,” she explained.
“And that’s what it feels like to get heavily tattooed before you become a grown adult human being.

“There are many reasons to regret my tattoos, but today I wanted to talk specifically about not fitting with my aesthetic.
“I think if you asked almost anyone over 30 if they have a better idea of who they are in their 30s than they are in their twenties, they’d say, ‘Oh my God, yes.’
“I have all these tattoos that don’t necessarily reflect who I am at 36.
“They may have reflected a moment in my 20s, maybe a moment in time when I wasn’t doing very well mentally, and they’re here forever.
“Before anyone says, no, I’m not getting all my tattoos removed, like that’s not even feasible, don’t even suggest it.”
“In general, I have a lot more feminine, girly aesthetic than when I was younger.
“I used to be much darker and spookier and moodier and now I have adult problems.
“(I’m) back to a lot of things I loved doing when I was a kid, like collecting antiques and spending time outside and I wear a lot of white and ruffles.
The 36-year-old said: ‘Imagine, you put on a shirt once when you were 20 and now you have to wear it for the rest of your life’
“My aesthetic just isn’t right. No shade to the artist, I still get tons of compliments on them – I wish they weren’t on my body.
“But I wanted to come here and put myself out there and say I was told I’d regret my tattoos when I got older.
“I’m older and I regret my tattoos and you might too.”
Sara captioned the video, “Oops I regret all my tattoos.
“I could do another video with all the other reasons but so far none of them have to do with my tattoos getting older (which guys used to tell me) they just don’t fit who I am now and my girly/feminine aesthetic.
Users took to the social media platform to express their views on tattoos and their experience with body art
“Will you regret your tattoos when you’re my age?” Maybe!’
The video received 1.8 million views and more than 8,000 comments.
One user wrote, “It’s because you care about aesthetics. If you actually collected quality art that you liked rather than for a look/trend, you wouldn’t feel this way.’
A second person said, ‘I’m 29 and tattooed heavily from 19-23, I certainly regret most for aesthetic reasons. I wish I had gotten b&g instead of bright colors.”
A third commented, “It’s interesting, but I actually regret the opposite, which is not getting more ink in my twenties.”
A fourth wrote: ‘This! Mine are so aggressive and now I’m like a gentle sweet adult. Doesn’t suit my aesthetic.’
