‘I feel like the biggest idiot!’ Woman realises AirPods ‘life hack’ setting that she wishes she knew earlier

An Australian living in New York City has revealed an AirPods ‘life hack’ that she couldn’t believe she didn’t know about before.

Caitlin Emiko said her ex-boyfriend revealed the game-changing technology tip that solved one of her big problems in the city.

However, the setting is only available on the AirPods Pro model.

Ms Emiko said: “I was on the phone with my ex-boyfriend the other day and he told me this life hack that makes me feel like the biggest idiot for not knowing about it for so long.

‘So when you have your AirPods in, it’s obviously picking up all the noise from like cars and stuff, and he said, “It’s so loud, why don’t you use voice isolation?”

The feature filters out background noise during a call and focuses on your voice

Caitlin Emiko has revealed the AirPods ‘life hack’ she couldn’t believe she didn’t know about before – voice isolation – which filters out background noise when you’re on a call

Ms. Emiko then showed people how to activate the feature.

Apple’s website describes the feature as one for “when you want your voice to be heard clearly during a call and other sounds to be filtered out.”

It adds: ‘Voice Isolation mode prioritizes your voice and blocks out ambient noise.’

To use this setting, as was demonstrated on the TikTok clip, open your Control Center during a call, tap ‘Mic Mode’ in the top right and select voice isolation – instead of standard or wide spectrum.

“The whole time I just had them on general and I did voice isolation, it was crystal clear and only picked up my voice,” Ms Emiko said.

‘When I walk to the gym I think, “Oh, I can’t call you because it’s so noisy, like I’m standing next to the road.”

“And the other day I called my other friend and he said, no, I can hear you so clearly.”

She then urged her more than 66,000 followers to do the same if they live in a noisy environment, but one commenter pointed out that this only works for AirPods Pro and not standard AirPods.

A pair of the Pro model costs £229, while the latest standard AirPods (third generation) are £60 cheaper, and the second generation AirPods are a whopping £100 less than the ones you’ll need if you want the voice isolation feature.
