I dyed a second hand wedding dress pink and turned it into a perfect Disney prom dress.
A teenage girl has shared her dream prom dress hack, after racking up 1.5 million likes on TikTok with her Disney-inspired look.
Megan Johnson, 17, of Fort Worth, Texas, dyed a beaded strapless wedding dress she found at a thrift store pink to create the perfect look.
In it video Gaining nearly 3,000 comments, Megan described the process in just 30 seconds and said the dress turned out better than expected.
In the video, Megan began by showing off the ‘before’ dress: a second-hand white wedding gown with a dramatic skirt and beaded corset top.
Megan bought this second-hand wedding dress and dyed it pink, sharing the process with fans on TikTok.
The Disney dress. Megan said that she was pleased with the color, but some said that she should have dyed it green.
She says that she had already tailored the corset portion of the dress to fit her, and then explained how to dye it.
“This is me dyeing a wedding dress that I saved for prom,” she explained. ‘So first, we’re filling the vat with boiling water.’
He then poured many pots of boiling water into a large plastic tub in his garage.
‘And here’s the dress, I sewed it to fit me,’ she said, presenting the dress to her.
Meghan then went to the store to buy dye to add to the bucket, telling viewers she was “taking one last look” at the dress before dipping it.
“I tossed it around with a mop for 30 minutes,” she said, explaining that she didn’t want the pink to look “too dark.”
It then cut to the final shot of the dress being hung out to dry, looking like a professional job.
Some said the dress was perfect, while others said she should sew little butterflies on it or dye it black.
Revealing the dress, Megan then ran across a field to the Lizzy McAlpine song “Ceilings” while her mother filmed her.
In the comments, she said she was concerned about how pearl beads and lace, in particular, would react to the dye.
But she said that even though the lace turned a darker pink, she thought the dress actually turned out “quite cute,” and many fans agreed.
One said it looked “dreamy”, while another described the idea as “cool”.
“You are literally a Disney princess,” wrote one.
One added that the dress reminded her of The Princess and the Frog, and Megan said that was what she had been looking for.
But others said that it would look better stained black or green.
