I broke down in tears when I spotted my dad in his favourite spot on Google Street View 11 years after he died
A grieving woman was left in tears as she saw her late father sitting in his favorite spot on Google Street View 11 years after his death.
Katie Scott, 49, discovered he had been immortalized on the search engine’s 360 street images this month.
Arthur Scott died in 2013 at the age of 83 after being diagnosed with stage three kidney failure.
In the 2009 Google image, Arthur is sitting on the couch outside his home, enjoying the sun.
In another photo, his German Shepherd, Elsa, is spotted wandering into the house. Elsa died four years before Arthur.
“When I found the statue I was so emotional,” said Katie, from Salford, Greater Manchester.
‘I cried when I found it. All those memories came flooding back.
‘That was his favorite spot. As soon as the sun came out, he sat on that bench.’

His daughter Katie was surprised to find him immortalized in the search engine’s Street View feature
She added: ‘It was upsetting but I was happy. I don’t have many pictures of my father, but we were very close.
“I took a screenshot of it so I can see it all the time.”
Arthur was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2008, when Katie moved into his council home to become his full-time carer.
She said: ‘When he was diagnosed we were told he only had a few years left so I moved in to look after him. He managed to live another five years.
‘It was a shock when he was diagnosed and it was heartbreaking to think about losing him.
‘He was so funny. He had a brilliant sense of humor and our relationship was largely based on humour. It was hard to live without him.’
Katie first discovered Arthur’s statue shortly after he passed away.
But she was ‘heartbroken’ when Google updated the image shortly afterwards and thought it was lost forever.
However, last month she learned she had access to older Google Street View images.

Google Maps has a tool that lets you view historical images from previous years, some dating back to when Street View first launched in 2007.
Katie added: ‘Just after he passed away we were looking through old photos and looked at the house on Google Maps and there he was.
‘I’ve looked at it a lot. When it was updated, I was heartbroken because I thought I would never see it again. I was still grieving.
“I found out on TikTok that you can view older photos and it was nice to see him again.”
Many bereaved families have found comfort after finding photos of their loved ones on Street View.
Relatives have found comfort in photos of loved ones on Street View. One found their deceased mother who died in January 2022 during a period when the facade of her house was being renovated
One X user posted this photo of his grandparents returning home with bags full of groceries, clearly noticing Google’s Street View camera
Four years before she passed away, her late mother was seen sitting outside a cafe enjoying a cup of coffee.
And another told how his friend had found her grandmother at a bus stop in 2008, waiting for the bus.
Others found their pets using Google’s feature.
