I believe AI represents the American Indian spirit, says Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the Indian diaspora in New York and announced that India will open two new consulates in the US, in Boston and Los Angeles.

Referring to India’s foreign policy of non-alignment, Modi said that for years India had followed a policy of equal distance with other countries. But today India has a foreign policy of maintaining equal proximity with everyone, he said and spoke about India’s contribution in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his hour-long address to an estimated 13,000 Indian Americans at the Nassau Veterans Coliseum in New York, Modi said India was not seeking global dominance. India was emerging as a new “catalyst” and its role would be crucial to accelerate global growth, peace, innovation, climate action and stability of global supply chains, he said.

Be it promoting yoga, lifestyle or environment, India is not just aiming for GDP-centric growth but for people-centric growth for all of you, the prime minister said. Citing Ishopanishad, Modi said that for India, knowledge is to be shared, wealth is to be nurtured and power is to be protected. “India today is a land of opportunities. It is no longer waiting for opportunities. It is creating opportunities now,” Modi said.

“For the world, AI means artificial intelligence. But I believe AI also represents the American Indian spirit,” Modi said. The prime minister described the diaspora as India’s brand ambassadors. He said living with diversity is ingrained in India and India-US relations will reach new heights with this AI “spirit”.
