I banned my in-laws from being alone with my daughter after they betrayed my trust – if they do it again I’ll call the police
A new mother is furious after her in-laws secretly pierced her six-month-old daughter’s ears and is considering cutting them out of her life completely.
The 32-year-old mother recently banned her husband’s parents from ever babysitting her daughter again after they betrayed her trust and went against her wishes.
“My husband comes from a culture where it is not uncommon to pierce baby girls’ ears, and his mother started pestering me about getting my daughter’s ears pierced a few days after birth,” the shared mother in a post on Reddit.
‘I made it clear that I wouldn’t do that, and that I would wait until she was old enough to ask for it herself. We live in my country, where piercing a baby’s ears is not common at all.’

But the new mother’s world came crashing down after her grandparents left the baby sobbing and red in the face for a weekend.
‘My mother-in-law took care of her all weekend and decided to pierce her ears without my knowledge or consent.
‘When I saw this I had a seizure. My baby was crying in pain and I took her to the doctor to ask for advice on whether to remove it or not.’
The doctor decided to remove the earrings because the baby seemed to be bothered by them, but that did not solve the problem.
“I decided at that moment that my mother-in-law and everyone else on that side of the family (except my sister-in-law, who is on my side in this) will never have any contact with my daughter alone” again — or at least until she is a teenager .
‘My concern is that she will do the same thing again, and to be honest, she has completely lost my trust. I told her that if she had a problem with it, I would report it to the police.”

The mother’s husband reluctantly sided with her, but claimed that the issue “wasn’t a big deal” and that it would be best if everyone moved on.
A few claimed that even though it was a big deal, the mother had to work to rebuild trust with her in-laws.
Others, however, took the opposite view: “Forget about rebuilding trust, I’d have them charged with assault.”
One mother added: ‘If someone took my child and did something to him, I have clearly said that we as parents are not okay with it, then I would absolutely go to the police.
“I would at least mention it to make it absolutely crystal clear: Don’t think you’re disrespecting the choices we make for our child. You are not the parent.”
Another said: ‘They mutilated a child and they knew it was against the parents’ wishes. These people have serious problems. Not that I would press charges, but poking holes in someone else’s child is a huge thing.’
Another new mother previously came under fire for piercing her newborn daughter’s ears after just one day in hospital.
The mother, who posts under her daughter’s name – Lara – on TikTok, shared an innocent video of her daughter, compared to her now three months old, just hours after her birth.
The adorable tot had a tiny flower earring visible in footage from her first 24 hours on Earth, and it caused a raucous explosion in the comments section below.
But others defended the decision, saying it is common in some cultures to pierce young girls’ ears at an early age.
“Maybe it’s just me, but the day my children were born, pierced ears were very high on my list of concerns,” one woman said.

‘Wow, this is another level for me… I just can’t understand it. And it hurts the same as when they are older! Don’t kid yourself,” said another.
A third added: ‘Why shouldn’t they be given a choice as to whether they want their ears pierced or not? I’m going to let my babies decide when they understand these things.”
While it is unknown where Lara and her mother live, it is believed not to be Australia, as she confirmed that it was the neonatologists at the hospital who “pierced Lara’s ears.”
‘By 2-3 days old, they don’t feel pain like they do for a year or two!’ she wrote.
‘The holes are made at birth in the hospital by neonatologists (doctors specialized in the care of newborns).’
The mother claimed that babies’ earlobes are softer when they are very young and that her daughter would not have felt any major pain, in fact she ‘didn’t even react’.
