I asked a simple question online about a power tool… I never expected the terrible and cruel events that followed

A young woman was criticized by thousands of men for asking a simple question about power tools.

Lex, from Melbourne, was trying to build some storage shelves and couldn’t figure out why what she thought was a drill wasn’t working properly.

She shared a video of the object and asked her followers for help, without expecting a wave of misogynistic comments about the inferiority of her gender.

‘Does anyone know what this is? Because I thought it was a drill,” she said. “I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but it’s not working.”

A few commenters eventually revealed that the tool was an electric hammer, but the head could be replaced with a drill if necessary.

Lex received almost 20,000 responses from men criticizing her.

“Oh my lord, please someone, give this girl a man. I would hate to see what she does behind the wheel,” one person said.

“This is so stupid it even makes my head hurt,” wrote another.

“There’s nothing I hate more than a helpless woman,” one person said.

Many others “volunteered” to “be her boyfriend” and “teach” her how to use power tools.

But some women defended Lex’s knowledge gap.

‘There’s nothing wrong with her not knowing. Women were never encouraged to learn these things, weren’t allowed in areas where tools were used, dad wouldn’t have taught her because she was a girl,” one person said.

“Knowing how to use power tools is not a gender issue – I know plenty of men who wouldn’t have a clue,” another woman added.
