A cosmetic surgeon and biochemist has listed five ways to reduce the risk of developing cancer.

Dr. Reza Tirgari, 54, from San Diego, California, has gained a TikTok following of more than 522,000 people by sharing his health recommendations.

In a now viral video, he recommended quitting smoking, eating healthy foods and exercising regularly, cutting out processed meat, practicing safe sex and wearing sunscreen daily.

Dr. Tirgari’s main suggestion for preventing cancer is to quit smoking of any kind.

He advised to stop smoking cigarettes, vapes or even hookahs as this is terrible for your lungs and can cause irreversible damage.

“Anything that doesn’t belong in your lungs, cut it out,” he said.

Next, Dr. Tirgari recommended avoiding processed meats, such as ham and bacon, at all costs.

“The World Health Organization (WHO) did a study that showed that salami and all these different types of bacon and cured meats increase the risk of colon cancer – that’s true,” he said.

‘Eliminate these from your diet and you will live a healthier life.’

Fewer people may understand the importance of safe sex, as STDs can potentially lead to disease or cancer.

‘We all know the risk of HIV, but did you know that hepatitis and HPV are also linked to unsafe sexual practices?’ Dr. Tirgari continued.

Hepatitis significantly increases the risk of liver cancer, while HPV can lead to cervical cancer.

“If you are at risk, you may want to consider getting vaccinated as well,” he added.

Finally, sunscreen should be worn daily, regardless of the season, to lower the risk of skin cancer.

“You should put it on every time you leave the house, whether the sun is shining or not,” Dr. Tirgari explained.

‘The number of cases of skin cancer has risen enormously and sunscreen is your best protection. I use it almost every day.’
