Hyundai recalls more than 90,000 Genesis vehicles due to fire risk
Hyundai is recalling more than 90,000 Genesis vehicles due to fire hazards and owners are being advised to park outside and away from buildings until a repair is completed.
The recall includes certain 2015-2016 Genesis vehicles, 2017-2019 Genesis G80, 2019 Genesis G90 and Genesis G70 vehicles.
A letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that water can enter the starter solenoid and cause an electrical short, which could result in a fire in the engine compartment while parking or driving.
Hyundai said in documents that it confirmed a dozen “thermal incidents” involving starters in the US between September 29, 2017 and July 9, 2023. Thermal incidents usually involve smoke, melting of parts or fire. The documents do not indicate whether there was a fire. According to the documents, there were no accidents or injuries.
Dealers will install a recovery relay kit in the motor junction box free of charge.
