HyperX launches new Cloud 3 wired gaming headset

HyperX has announced a new version of its flagship Cloud gaming headset for PC and consoles, the Cloud 3. It will be available from Tuesday for $99.99. While the design doesn’t seem to have evolved much from the previous version that launched in 2015 and quickly became the gold standard, the company says the Cloud 3 offers several improvements.

It claims to have redesigned its 53mm audio drivers for better performance, and the adjustable boom mic supports noise cancellation. In addition, it has a built-in metal pop filter to prevent unwanted sounds from getting through. As for the fit, HyperX credits that new materials make it more comfortable to wear for long periods of time. It also includes a lifetime activation of DTS Headphone:X, PC software that enables 3D audio for a more immersive soundscape.

One of the most welcome changes is how it can connect to devices. The Cloud 3 connects more easily to modern devices via USB-C, USB-A or with the standard 3.5mm headphone port. This flexibility allows you to easily connect to most of the consoles or portable devices you have.

While the launch of the headset is exciting, a new iteration of HyperX’s flagship Cloud headset hitting shelves usually means several tweaks to the formula. Historically, HyperX has had a wireless version after the launch of the revised wired model, then follows that move to lower cost console-specific headsets. However, the release plans may be a bit different for the Cloud 3 as it is now owned by HP.
