A hygiene expert has lifted the lid on the one thing you might be doing wrong in the shower – and it could be really making you stink.
The important information was shared in a new video posted on TikTok by Mary Futher, aka Madame Sweat, the founder of the Clean Body brand Kaia Naturals.
Futher, who has amassed more than 882,000 followers on her TikTok account, often takes to the platform to share her sweat and hygiene hacks with viewers, and this time was no different.
The beauty expert shockingly revealed that the big mistake was using the same cleanser on your body as you do on your ‘smelly areas’ such as the groin area.
In fact, it’s something she claims 75 percent of people do wrong.

“There are two sweat glands that are located in both the groin, the armpits and in your feet, and they need antibacterial treatment – a natural treatment,” she explained.
‘You can’t use high [fragranced] shower gel, then you just won’t stay fresh for as long,” Verder continued.
So what the social media star herself does is keep a separate bar of soap for her groin, armpits and feet.
Furthermore, she uses the signature $25 Ingrown bar from her own line, but also advised what ingredients to look out for — even if yours isn’t from Kaia Naturals.
The hygiene expert emphasized that you should find a bar that contains antibacterial ingredients.
“This has salt in it, I like salt as a natural ingredient, apple cider vinegar, and I like charcoal because it removes impurities,” she said of the antibacterial ingredients in her own bar.
“I can’t use it all over my body because it dries it out,” Futher added, emphasizing why she’ll only use it on the “crevices” she mentioned earlier.
Other popular brands that make antibacterial soaps include Dove, Dial and Cetaphil.

And she’s right: For example, a strongly scented Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Wash sold at Bath and Body Works doesn’t contain ingredients like charcoal or apple cider vinegar.
In the comments section of Madame Sweat’s video, some users admitted that they were unaware of this hygiene tip.
“Omg, how did I not know this!!!” wrote one person.
Another agreed: ‘This is the best explanation on how to stay clean/fresh. Thank you for this gentle, friendly approach.’
“I have three or more and I thought I had OCD for this,” someone else admitted.
One user even suggested using charcoal facial wipes that you can find at places like TJ Maxx if you find certain soaps too expensive.
So the next time you hop in the shower, you might want to take a moment to think about how you wash your body — and make sure you have two types of soap on hand.
