Rescue teams pulled Alex from the rubble in Antakya, in Hatay province, after they heard him conducting searches nearby.
The series of devastating earthquakes has already killed more than 50,000 people in southern Turkey and northern Syria. Hatay is one of the hardest hit provinces.
Video footage of the poignant rescue showed the team’s effort to free Alex. Despite having spent 23 days buried under the rubble, the first thing the cute pup did was happily lick the face of his rescuer.

Alex was taken to the HAYTAP field hospital, where he received treatment and volunteers provided post-rescue care and attention.

Osman Polat, a HAYTAP volunteer, told a Turkish media outlet ode TV: ‘It was a miracle indeed.
“It’s really a miracle that he survived in that hole for 22 days without eating or drinking anything.”
