A husband has been arrested at Miami International Airport in connection with the disappearance of his estranged wife, who went missing in Spain earlier this year.

David Knezevich was taken into custody on Saturday upon returning from his home country of Serbia, where he had been for months.

The FBI and Spanish National Police officials carried out the arrest, as reported by EFE.

The Belgrade Internal Attaché’s office and Colombian police were also reportedly involved in the arrest.

Ana María Henao, a 40-year-old Florida resident originally from Colombia, was declared missing on February 5 after failing to meet a friend to travel from Madrid to Barcelona for a conference.

Friends say Ana was going through a 'tough' divorce from husband David Knezevich when she disappeared from her apartment on February 2 while on holiday in Madrid.

Knezevich disappeared amid an ongoing divorce from husband David, 35, a Serbian-American businessman. The couple had yet to officially file for divorce

A March 12 report from Spanish publication El Cierre Digital cited “sources close to the case” as claiming that the Scientific Police had found biological remains in the missing woman’s living quarters.

Her brother, Felipe Henao, recently appeared on NewsNation’s ‘Cuomo’ with a desperate appeal to the public. He said the FBI has denied the remains report, but the family is still desperate for answers.

‘We want to know the truth. We want to know where my sister is,” Henao said. “If anyone has any information or tips, please contact the FBI or Spanish authorities.”

When asked about the alleged discovery of biological remains in her apartment, Henao said he asked the FBI if the report was true and “they told me it wasn’t.”

There are no further details about the details of the remains found.

Detectives “don’t want to share information because it could jeopardize the case.” I understand. Justice moves slowly,” Henao added.

He said her case was treated as a matter of domestic violence while being dealt with by the legal system, and that it was a case of enforced disappearance rather than a voluntary disappearance.

“Do you believe the authorities are treating this as a case where she may still be alive and need to find her?” host Chris Cuomo, 53, asked.

Henao hesitated. “I don’t know,” he said. “You have to face reality, and it’s been 40 days. I asked them and the chances are slim.’

But he added: “You never lose hope and I will never stop fighting for your sister. I’ll fight until we find her.’

Speaking to DailyMail.com last month, Henao said his mother was “devastated” over her daughter’s disappearance.

“I wish I had something new, I wish Ana was back already,” Hernao said. “I just hope someone comes forward with information and tells us what they know.”
