Hurricanes winger Max Pacioretty tears his right Achilles tendon AGAIN and is expected to miss the rest of the season after offseason surgery to repair the same injury.
Max Pacioretty has torn his right Achilles tendon for the second time, leaving the Carolina Hurricanes without one of their established veterans for the foreseeable future.
Pacioretty was placed on injured reserve after he was hurt late in the third quarter of Thursday night’s win over Minnesota.
Players placed on IR must sit out a minimum of seven days, but this injury will almost certainly end Pacioretty’s season. The 34-year-old underwent surgery over the summer after initially tearing his right Achilles tendon.

The Connecticut native went down with 19.3 seconds remaining in the game while in control of the puck near the goal and the boards. He stopped as he tried to change direction and grabbed the back of his lower right leg.
He had to be helped to get to the locker room without putting weight on his leg.
“I’m not in a very good mood, as you know,” coach Rod Brind’Amour said of Pacioretty on Friday. They’re going to check it out today. …It’s pretty much what you’d expect.’
The Hurricanes acquired Pacioretty from Las Vegas in a July trade hoping he would fill a need as a forward scoring option. He made his season debut on January 5 and played five games for Carolina, scoring three goals.
