The Irwins have shared a message of support for Florida residents affected by Hurricane Ian, which just made landfall on the state’s southwest coast.

Bindi, whose husband Chandler Powell is from Florida and has relatives there, made a statement on Instagram on behalf of her family on Thursday.

“I wish everyone in Florida strength during the tremendous events of Hurricane Ian,” wrote the 24-year-old conservationist.

“Our friends, family and everyone in Florida right now – know that our hearts are with you,” she continued.

She also shared a photo of an American alligator, which is native to Florida.

Many of Bindi’s Floridian followers thanked the wildlife warrior for her kind words.

One fan wrote “thanks from Jacksonville FL,” while a Tampa resident said they also “sent love to Australia.”

Hurricane Ian plowed into Florida’s Gulf Coast with catastrophic force on Wednesday, causing howling winds, torrential rains and a treacherous wave of ocean surf that made it one of the most powerful U.S. storms in recent years.

Ian made landfall at 3:05 a.m. EDT near Cayo Costa, a barrier island just west of Fort Myers, as a Category 4 hurricane, with sustained winds up to 250 mph (241 kph).

Governor Ron DeSantis said Ian had created life-threatening storm surges — waves of wind-driven seawater that flooded along the coast — up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) in places.

Forecasters also warned of intense thunderstorms and possible tornadoes, with up to 2 feet of rain expected in parts of central Florida as the storm moved further inland.

“This is a storm that we will be talking about for many years to come, a historic event,” said Ken Graham, director of the National Weather Service.
