Spanish hurdler Enrique Llopis was hospitalized on Sunday night after a terrible fall in the 60m hurdles final of the European Indoor Championships.
The 22-year-old, who was a medal contender in the race, lay motionless on the track after crashing into the final obstacle and hitting his head on the ground.
The doctors quickly came to the aid of Llopis, who was protected from the view of the spectators by a white tent.
The crowd inside the Atakoy Arena in Istanbul fell silent as medics treated the affected athlete for five minutes.
Llopis was eventually carried off the track on a stretcher and in a neck brace, with a Spanish team doctor giving a thumbs up, prompting applause from the stands.

The Spanish federation later said its participant was taken to hospital by ambulance but was conscious.

Llopis had won his semifinal and was in contention for a bronze medal in a race won by Swiss Jason Joseph ahead of Pole Jakub Szymanski. Britain’s David King finished seventh.
The disgusting incident occurred at the final event of four days of action in Istanbul.
Previously, Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson and Jazmin Sawyers won gold medals in the 800m and long jump, respectively.
