Hunter Valley wedding bus crash survivor loses both his wife and daughter in double tragedy

Those injured in the Hunter Valley bus crash include the husband and father of two women who died in the weekend wedding disaster.

Nadene ‘Nads’ McBride and her daughter Kyah McBride were two of ten guests who died after the bus they were traveling in crashed in Greta on Sunday night.

Also missing after the bus rolled onto Wine Country Drive near the Hunter Expressway exit at around 11:30 p.m. is Kyah’s partner Kane Symons.

Graham ‘Banger’ McBride was one of 25 injured in the crash, which occurred after the wedding of Singleton couple Madeleine Edsell and Mitchell Gaffney at the Wandin Estate winery.

Mr McBride is a well known figure at the Singleton Roosters Australian Football Club, where Kyah was a star player and Nadene her coach.

Daily Mail Australia understands that Mr McBride was taken to hospital with neck injuries, but it was unclear if he was one of 14 passengers still in hospital.

Heartbreaking footage has now surfaced of mother and daughter praising each other in a YouTube video released just two months ago.

“I couldn’t really have a better person in my corner,” Kyah says in the video, breaking down in tears.

Mr. McBride also appears in the Roosters video in which his wife and daughter both get emotional as they talk about each other and the club they loved.

Ms. McBride, who worked for Rio Tinto as a maintenance supervisor, helped found the Roosters women’s team and made it a premiership.

“Coaching my daughter can be very, very tough,” she says lightly during the video.

“Probably the only person who will tell me honestly if she doesn’t like what I’ve said.

“The girls have seen her and I have some metabolisms. We haven’t really come to blows, but we can have a few words on the pitch.”

Kyah explains the close relationship with her mother on and off the field. “As a coach, my mom is great,” she says.

“We had nights when I lived at home where it would be a random Tuesday night and she already has the board ready with all the players in their positions and I had to sit there for hours while she went through it.

“And we had to talk to everyone about their strengths and weaknesses.”

Her mom then says, “To be honest, she’s actually a great player. Kyah’s soccer brain is next level, but not… yeah, well, she’s going to see this, but yeah, I was going to say don’t tell her.’

Kyah: ‘She gives us so much. She wants the best for you and she especially wants to see women play footy.’

“My mum was probably the best thing that ever happened to this club.”

Elsewhere in the video, Ms. McBride describes the women’s team being beaten 263-0 at the start.

“We only kicked two goals all season and I kicked them both and I played centre-back,” she says.

“We’ve come a long way since then and in 2020 we won the premiership miraculously and through a lot of hard work.

“We beat a team that absolutely shouldn’t have beaten on the day and we did and we even climbed to the highest level.”

Mrs. McBride’s love for the roosters is evident when she describes the “family feeling” she gets when she’s around the group.

“I only asked a girl yesterday because she moved to our club and she just messaged me saying, ‘I just love this club and I love you,'” she says.

‘I love my girls. I can’t help but cry because I love them so much.’

“Our women’s soccer community is shocked and saddened by the tragic news that Nadene (Nads) McBride and her daughter Kyah have now passed away in the Singleton bus accident,” the post read.

“Her husband Banger (Graham) is reportedly in the hospital… Please contact each other for support.”

Kyah’s partner was an accomplished surfer and member of the Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club in Tasmania.

“CPSLSC is heartbroken to hear of the tragic passing of Kane Symons in the Hunter Valley bus tragedy,” the club wrote on Facebook.

Kane, also known as “Superman”, was a great athlete who competed at the highest level. But more than that he was a leader, a great guy and a buddy to many. We adored him and will really miss him.”

Newlyweds Mrs. Edsell and Mr. Gaffney both played at the Roosters where the members were deeply shocked.

The other wedding guests killed in the crash are Andrew and Lynan Scott, Tori Cowburn – another Roosters player – and Rebecca Mullen, all from Singleton.

Angus Craig of Queensland, Zachary Bray of Byron Bay and Darcy Bullman were also killed.

Brett Andrew Button, the 58-year-old bus driver, has been charged with 11 offences, including 10 counts of dangerous driving resulting in death, and was arraigned in Cessnock local court on Tuesday.
