Hunter Biden’s lawyer insists tax fraud charges were a SHOCK, says he was indicted because his ‘last name is Biden’ and Republicans ‘can’t get a shred of evidence’ on Joe so they are going after his son

  • Defense attorney Abbe Lowell asked how a failed plea deal resulted in nine tax charges
  • He cited “Republican political pressure” and said he was denied the opportunity to rebut
  • According to the indictment, he spent $188,960 on “Adult Entertainment” and paid no taxes

Hunter Biden attorney Abbe Lowell said he was stunned last week by his client's tax indictment. He said prosecutors rejected his pleas for a meeting, accusing them of bowing to outside political pressure.

Lowell was in the Wilmington courtroom when an earlier plea deal collapsed that would have expunged two misdemeanor charges and avoided a separate weapons charge through a “diversion agreement.”

Furious Monday over a new indictment filed by Special Prosecutor David Weiss, charging him with nine counts — while also reviving a string of damaging information about lavishing large amounts of money on prostitutes, luxury cars, adult entertainment and expensive hotels . even if he doesn't pay his taxes on time.

“And as for the rising allegations, people just have to ask the question: What else changed between June and December other than Republican political pressure?” Lowell asked on MSNBC.

After the deal's collapse, Weiss requested a special prosecutor, and House Republicans accused Hunter of getting a “sweetheart deal” that would have allowed him to avoid prison time and would have given him possible immunity from other charges .

Lowell also pointed the finger at Hunter's addiction as the root of the problem. Hunter wrote in depth about his struggles in his memoir. Prosecutors cited book earnings along with millions in other income to argue he was able to pay his taxes. The FBI has been investigating the president's son since 2018.

“And given all the problems the U.S. Attorney's Office has had over the past five years, what happened to his tardiness while, as everyone knows, he was in the bottom of his crack cocaine addiction — which explains much of his misconduct? – and also addresses whether he was involved in what they call a scheme, as opposed to the most boring part of addiction. That's what's going on,” Lowell said.

During the interview, Lowell held up a copy of the two-page agreement that fell apart — his attorneys and prosecutors struggled in court to agree on how far it extended — and the 56-page indictment proposing a grand got a jury.

'What happened between this and this? No change in the facts, no change in the law, but the enormous pressure exerted by Republicans, from former President Trump to the House committee chairmen, to demand that something more be done. That's not the way it should work, but that's how it has worked so far,” he said.

He also repeated his accusation that Hunter was given special disadvantages because of his name.

“It's because his last name is Biden. It's not like they're going after a distant cousin. it's because he's the son of the president named Biden,” Lowell said.

He said Republicans'have tried and tried to say that President Biden did something wrong. They can't find a shred of evidence because he doesn't have any.'

They're basically saying, “Okay, I can't get the president, so I'll smear his son in a way that suggests there's something going on between the two of them.” That's what makes this different.'

The indictment also points out some of the possible advantages of Hunter's last name. It says he earned millions in income from serving on the boards of a Ukrainian energy company and other companies. According to the indictment, his annual salary for Burisma fell from $1 million to $500,000 two months after his father left the vice presidency.
