Hunter Biden has retained a top Washington, DC lawyer with a litany of high-powered former clients to represent him against threatened investigations by House Republicans once they regain a majority next year.
He joins a client list that includes former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and former White House adviser Jared Kushner, as well as former President Bill Clinton.
The foreign business dealings of President Joe Biden’s only surviving son have been a lightning rod issue for Republican lawmakers, many of whom have accused Hunter of cashing in on his family name, while others have gone so far as to paint the commander-in-chief as a corrupt participant in the schemes.
Investigations into long-threatened China and Ukraine work by Hunter are now likely to materialize after Republicans won a majority in the House of Representatives in Congress next year.
He has now reportedly gone ahead of them by hiring Abbe Lowell from international law firm Winston and Strawn, according to nbc news.
Lowell’s job will involve helping Hunter craft his response to House Republican oversight investigations and other legal issues that may arise, another attorney for the president’s son told NBC.
The veteran attorney bills himself as “one of the top white-collar defense and trial attorneys in the country,” according to his law firm’s website.

‘Lowell is a well-known Washington-based attorney who has represented numerous public officials and high-profile individuals in Justice Department investigations and lawsuits, as well as Congressional Investigations. Mr. Lowell will handle congressional investigations and general strategic advice,” Hunter’s attorney, Kevin Morris, reportedly said.
Lowell was also a lawyer for the Democrats during the impeachment of Bill Clinton in 1998.
A Washington Post article of that year described Lowell as a ‘certified liberal Democrat’.
But he’s also no stranger to helping Republican agents.
Lowell reportedly represented Kushner not only against congressional questioning, but also in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia collusion investigation.
His credentials also include representing sitting Sen. Bob Menendez amid the New Jersey Democrat’s corruption trial, which ended in a mistrial.
It comes about a month after House Republicans, led by the ranking member of the Oversight Committee, Rep. James Comer, and the ranking member of the Judiciary, Rep. Jim Jordan, held a press conference in which they made it clear that Hunter would be a priority for them next year.
Lowell reportedly represented Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and former White House adviser, amid special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia collusion investigation.
Lowell was also chosen by Democrats as a lawyer amid the 1998 impeachment of Bill Clinton by House Republicans.
They also accused Biden himself of being compromised by his son’s foreign relations.
“This is a Joe Biden investigation,” Comer said. “I think we’ve presented the evidence for why we think it’s important, and we’re going to move forward with that.”
He later said, “We’re trying to stay focused: Was Joe Biden directly involved in Hunter Biden’s trade deals and is he engaged?”
Comer said he would even like Biden family members to testify before the House when asked, but said the main focus of his investigation right now was accessing bank records.
“As part of our investigation, we have evidence that Hunter’s and Joe Biden’s finances, credit cards, and bank accounts were mixed up, if not shared,” the Republican lawmaker said.
