- On Monday, a homeowner shot at him, but he fled with a gun, police said
The manhunt for fugitive killer Danelo Cavalcante has entered its 13th day as police warn the convict is now armed after breaking into a house and stealing a gun.
It comes as Dog the Bounty Hunter has apparently made calls to Pennsylvania contacts and police as he considers searching for the 34-year-old Brazil native.
Cavalcante was serving a life sentence for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and awaiting transfer to Chester County Prison, 30 miles (48 kilometers) west of Philadelphia, when he escaped on August 31 by climbing a wall.
He was last seen on Monday evening breaking into a house in East Nantmeal – 20 miles from the search area where police had been combing for days. The homeowner shot him seven times, but it is not clear if any of the shots hit him.
Police say the killer managed to get away with a .22 caliber rifle.
The manhunt for fugitive murderer Danelo Cavalcante has expanded after several sightings this weekend. He is seen outside the home of a former colleague
Dog the Bounty Hunter has apparently been calling local contacts and the police as he considers starting the search
State police said on Facebook shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday that they were pursuing Cavalcante in South Coventry Township, adding that he was “armed with a weapon.”
It was the first sighting since Saturday, when Cavalcante stole a van and tried to contact a former colleague before dumping the vehicle in a field.
The Owen J. Roberts School District in Chester County announced it will be closed Tuesday as the community remains on alert. In addition, four schools in the neighboring Downingtown Area School District will hold their activities indoors.
Now TMZ reports that Dog the Bounty Hunter wants to join the manhunt and has been monitoring the search, but wants to get a “better idea of the lay of the land” before flying into the area.
The police had concentrated their search in the vicinity of the prison, where he had been spotted several times last week. But on Saturday, a clean-shaven Cavalcante was spotted outside the home of a former co-worker on a ring doorbell camera in East Pikeland Township, before being spotted outside the home of another former co-worker in nearby Phoenixville.
Cavalcante is also wanted in a 2017 murder case in his native Brazil
Cavalcante was seen wearing a black baseball-style hat, a green hooded sweatshirt, green prison pants and white shoes as he appeared to grin at the doorbell camera at the home of one of his former colleagues.
The homes are both outside the perimeter where police initially concentrated, leading to questions about how Cavalcante slipped through hundreds of officers patrolling the area.
Cavalcante was seen on a surveillance camera in the prison’s outdoor area looking at the camera before the crab walked between two walls, climbed a fence and jumped over barbed wire during the daring escape that took place in broad daylight on August 31.
Before this weekend, there had been repeated sightings of the “extremely dangerous” killer in the 759 square kilometer search area around the prison.
