Hundreds of Liverpool fans missed kick-off of the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, with images showing them outside Everton’s ground as the match began.
Everton’s fans inside the ground made a cracking atmosphere as they sought to win their first Premier League game of the season against Liverpool – but many of their opposition counterparts were still not in their seats for the 12.30 kick-off.
It was not immediately clear what the reason was for the hold up, although naturally the Everton-Liverpool rivalry would have attracted high demand for the whole 90 minutes.
Goodison Park has a capacity of 39,572 people, although work is underway for Everton’s new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium, which will hold 52,888 when it opens for the 2024-25 season.
