Hume Highway horror: Two men left fighting for life after being struck by a Toyota HiLux while trying to cross a busy highway

Two young men have been left fighting for their lives in hospital after they were hit by a Toyota HiLux while trying to cross a busy highway.

The pair, both in their 20s, were captured on CCTV crossing the Hume Highway near Yagoona, in Sydney’s west, about 4am on Friday.

They narrowly avoided being hit by a white van just seconds before being hit by the Toyota HiLux at a zebra crossing.

The traffic lights were green at the time for oncoming traffic.

The 59-year-old driver of the Toyota HiLux (pictured) was transported to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing

The men suffered serious head and leg injuries, with one man being rushed to St George Hospital, while the other was taken to Liverpool Hospital.

Both were in critical condition.

The 59-year-old driver of the Toyota HiLux was transported to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

The ute, which had been traveling at 60km/h, suffered serious damage including a broken windscreen, a crumpled bonnet and a dented bull bar.

No charges have been filed yet and the investigation is ongoing.
