Two of the four people who died when a truck and a Subaru Forester collided on a road trip to Melbourne have been identified.
Trevor and Lorraine Breen, of Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, died when the SUV and B-double crashed just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the junction of Wenkes Rd in Chiltern, 22 miles southwest of Albury near the NSW border.
They were traveling with another couple in their 70s to visit relatives and friends in Melbourne when the tragedy unfolded, killing all four.
The truck driver was treated for minor injuries.
The couples had stopped in Chiltern “for a break and a coffee,” said Glenn Weir, Victoria’s assistant road police commissioner.

“For whatever reason, they failed to yield the intersection and got hit with a B-double, and they were all killed instantly,” he said.
He described the situation as “appalling” and said it highlighted that a lack of concentration on the road can have tragic consequences.
The male truck driver, 30, had just completed an hour long road trip when the accident occurred.
“The poor old lorry driver who is just doing his job, driving on and then is faced with something that is absolutely beyond his control,” said Mr Weir.
“That will stay with him for the rest of his life.”
The truck driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A mandatory test later confirmed that he had no drugs or alcohol in his system.
The truck was owned by Ron Finemore Transport, based in Wodonga.
The company’s president, Mark Parry, said the company would assist with the investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the people who were in the vehicle and their extended families, as well as the first responders,” he said.
Mr Parry said conditions were clear and visibility did not appear to be a factor.
