Human remains found on a surfing beach on Tasmania’s South Arm Peninsula
Calls are being made for any information that could help solve the mystery surrounding the identity of a person whose remains were discovered on a Tasmanian cliff.
A resident discovered the skeletal remains on July 6 in farmland halfway between Clifton Beach and Goats Beach in the state’s south.
The person’s remains have not been identified through forensic examination. Police have released new images of items found next to them in the hope the community can help.
Tasmania Police Inspector Andrew Kean said the items included a pair of black dress shoes, a short-sleeved top and a plastic bag containing two keys on a key ring, a cigarette lighter and two possible identification cards.

The items also include a short-sleeved top (photo, left) and a plastic bag containing two keys on a key ring, a cigarette lighter (photo, right) and two possible ID cards
“Note the right shoe had several store-bought arch supports in the heel,” Insp Kean added.
‘A lengthy forensic analysis has been carried out which confirmed the remains are human, but unfortunately no identification has yet been made.’
Early tests revealed that the remains belonged to a middle-aged man of white or Indian subcontinental descent, and that they had been there for at least five to 30 years.
The skeletal remains were found by a local resident halfway between Clifton Beach (photo, stock) and Goats Beach and are believed to have been there for at least five to thirty years.
“There is no evidence of violence but police protocols require this case to be treated as suspicious until evidence determines otherwise,” Insp Kean said.
Further in-depth forensic analysis will be carried out in attempts to identify the remains.
Anyone with information that could help police identify the remains is asked to contact Bellerive Police on 131 444.
