The remains of four babies were discovered earlier this month in a South Boston apartment, at least one in a freezer.

The remains of two men and two women were found after police were called to the apartment, located near Medal of Honor Park, in mid-November.

On November 17, officers were called to the apartment and opened a freezer in the one-bedroom apartment to find “a human fetus or baby.”

When homicide detectives arrived at the scene the next day, they found the “additional human remains” in the residence. Officials did not specify where in the apartment they were found.

Local media were on the scene on November 18 when a team from the medical examiner’s office saw a container removed from the building. According to the police, the container was only a meter long NBC Boston.

On Monday, Boston Police Department officers confirmed that post-mortem examinations had been conducted and determined that the remains belonged to two women and two men.

The results of the autopsies on the remains are currently pending.

Property records indicate there are nine units in the building, located in the 800 block of East Broadway, and the unit under investigation is a bedroom.

A neighbor told a local outlet that the entire building is reeling from the discovery as they come to terms with what has been found.

“It’s appalling, I don’t understand how anyone could do that to a child or a baby at any stage of their life,” one man said in an interview with CBS Boston said.

On the day the remains were removed, bystanders and neighbors reported seeing officials with the medical examiner’s office carrying two boxes in and out of the building.

One of the boxes was covered with a blue blanket and carried by two people.

‘Disgusted. It’s horrible,” said a bystander in an interview earlier this month.

Another person said they had noticed people coming “in and out” of the apartment, but never thought about it.

“It’s just people who come and go. I think I’ve seen a handful of people come in and out, but there’s never anything suspicious or scary to see,” said one resident.
