Hull is about to stage an unexpected government coup with former Olympiacos boss Pedro Martins lining up to take over the MKM stadium.

Owner Acun Ilicali has led the Championship club’s search for a new boss following the sacking of Shota Arveladze last week.

And Sports post understands that the Tigers are in advanced talks with Martins and reach an agreement.

Hull City expected to announce the appointment of Pedro Martins as new manager

Hull chairman Acun Ilıcalı has met with Martins and an agreement is now almost signed

Barring any late issues, the 52-year-old former Portugal international should sign a deal before the weekend.

Martins is expected to attend Hull’s game with Wigan tonight.

Martins was linked with the vacant Wolves head coach position following the sacking of Bruno Lage on Sunday – thought the job is expected to be taken over by Julen Lopetegui.

Nevertheless, the imminent arrival of Martins to Hull is seen by the club’s hierarchy as an exciting appointment to climb the table.

Hull has also explored interest in Carlos Carvahal, Carlos Corberan and Scott Parker, but Martins was seen as the prime candidate by Ilicali.

Hull City sacked manager Shota Arveladze just eight hours before a game against Luton

Last Friday, Hull City bizarrely sacked then-manager Shota Arveladze just eight hours before their game against Luton.

The 49-year-old has been relieved of his duties at the Championship club with the Tigers 20th in the table with three wins from 10 games this season so far.

Some players were told during the international break that Arveladze would be leaving but that he would be in charge until Friday, indicating that the right candidate will be available.
