Hugh Sheridan is left cowering in an stairwell during Hamas terrorist attack in Israel ‘desperately looking for a cab to the airport to try and get out’

Hugh Sheridan is trapped in Israel during the terrorist attacks by Hamas and is looking for a way out of the country.

The Packed to Rafts star, 38, shared the alarming footage on Instagram on Sunday, showing her hiding from rioters on a stairwell with some friends.

He also posted some disturbing footage of sirens and deserted Israeli streets, telling fans he was looking for a taxi to take him to safety.

“A few hours ago, everyone in Israel was living a completely normal life. “Yesterday was a major Jewish holiday, a week after the new year,” he wrote next to the video.

“Yesterday we were at a barbecue with young people who are now on their way to Gaza to fight. My heart is breaking, I’m on the stairs,’ he added.

Sheridan also posted a video of an eerily quiet Israeli street as he and his friends try to make their way to the airport and leave the country.

“It became eerily quiet.” I’m desperately looking for a taxi to the airport to try and get out. The rockets were too close,” he wrote next to the video.

Fortunately, Hugh and his friends were able to make it to the airport and safely board a flight to Athens, Greece.

It comes as Hamas, which Australia recognizes as a terrorist organisation, fired thousands of rockets into Israel on Saturday, surprising the country – which is celebrating a religious holiday.

About 2,200 missiles were fired, killing at least 250 people and wounding 1,500, making it the deadliest attack in Israel in decades.

The coalition said Israel had “every right” to defend itself, although opposition foreign affairs spokesman Simon Birmingham called for “all sides” to work together to protect innocent lives and end the violence.

Australia’s largest national representative body of the Australian Jewish community says calls for de-escalation by “both sides” are “misconceived and only play into the hands of terrorists”.

World leaders and diplomats were quick to condemn the Palestinian attack, including Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

“Australia unequivocally condemns Hamas attacks on Israel, including the indiscriminate shelling of cities and civilians,” she wrote on social media.
