Hugh Laurie whips around north London on a Micro Scooter

Hugh must be joking? Actor Laurie swaps hard hat for baseball cap as the British star whips around North London on a Micro Scooter

It is a means of transport that does not know its newest character.

But in real life, Hugh Laurie is clearly a fan as he swerved around his north London neighborhood on a scooter on Sunday.

The actor, who adapted Agatha Christie’s 1934 novel, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? for ITV, was pictured on the two-wheeled Micro Scooter wearing a cap and holding a bright orange towel.

During the outing, he put on a blue raincoat, sweatpants and a pair of sporty trainers.

However, Hugh seemed to ignore safety by not wearing a helmet and running on the sidewalk, swinging around bus stops and people.

It comes just months after the 65-year-old was spotted pulling a series of smirking expressions while walking his dog.

The actor, who starred in the American medical drama House, plays Dr. James Nicholson in new three-part ITV drama Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?

Laurie stars alongside Will Poulter and Lucy Boynton as Bobby Jones and Frankie Derwent, two friends trying to solve the identity of a man found dead on a golf course.

The actor said he wanted to play with the “conventional” take on Christie’s novels.

“I wanted to contradict the conventional image of Agatha Christie, who are all old reverends and old lovers with lap dogs, to really give some scale to Britain’s position at the time,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Front Row.

“I also wanted to mention the war. It has always amazed me that Agatha Christie rarely mentions the war that ripped the heart out of this country.”

He also revealed that he initially planned to adapt The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, but during a conversation with Mrs. Christie’s great-grandson, he mentioned Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? and decided he would adapt that story instead.

The Cambridge University graduate was spotted with a dog last summer – on that occasion he looked much more disheveled and sported a bushy gray beard.

He has previously spoken of his affection for his dogs and paid a touching tribute when his last pet, Stanley, passed away in February 2019.

Alongside a photo posted to Twitter at the time, he wrote, “Stanley C. Brown left this earth last night after 17 years.

“He was the sweetest, gentlest, craziest, most handsome companion anyone could hope for. It was a privilege.’

In Laurie’s latest film, The Amazing Maurice, he plays an animated streetwise ginger cat.

“I loved doing it and the animation is amazing – it’s amazing and I look really handsome as a cat,” he told The Graham Norton Show last month.

‘The film is very nice and extremely charming. I’m very proud of it.’

Why didn’t they ask Evans? is on ITV tonight at 9pm and continues tomorrow.
