Hugh Jackman transforms into a shepherd as he films animated outdoor scene for new movie Three Bags Full in Oxford

Hugh Jackman put on an animated display Thursday as he filmed his upcoming project Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie in Oxford.

The actor, 55, plays an Irish shepherd named George in the comedy film that also stars Emma Thompson, Nicholas Braun, Molly Gordon and Hong Chau.

In the film, George raises his sheep for their wool and reads a murder mystery every night, as if the sheep can understand it.

Not only can the sheep understand him, but they argue about whodunnit for hours afterwards.

When George is found dead under strange circumstances, the sheep are certain it was murder and vow to use their newly discovered mysterious skills to solve the crime.

The X-Men star also wore a brown belt and dark green cap while filming an outdoor scene in a field.

Hugh made a dramatic facial expression as he aimed a hose during the scene while several crew members could be seen nearby.

The crew was also seen carrying sheep braces while an ambulance was parked nearby.

In between takes, Hugh was seen taking off his shirt and going to his caravan to take a break.

The film, written by Craig Mazin, is based on the 2005 novel of the same name by author Leonie Swann.

Hugh will soon be back on the big screen in his new movie Deadpool & Wolverine, due out on July 26.

The actor reprises his best-known role as the mutant Wolverine, with Ryan Reynolds returning to play Deadpool.

“We are blessed to have had a beautiful, loving marriage together for almost three decades,” the couple said in a statement to People.

Hugh recently said that as age catches up with him, training to transform himself into the muscular beast on the big screen is harder than ever.

‘The hardest part… [was] the food,” the Free Guy actor said People magazine this week.

‘I have to eat a lot. For me, for my body type, I’m naturally skinny. To get the size, that’s the hardest part. That’s the part that bothers me.’

He added: “My body was a little sore at first, but I was happy that my body still responded. And I realized how good it is for your brain.”

It comes after Hugh announced his shock split from his Deborra-Lee in September last year after 27 years of marriage, telling fans they were splitting ‘to pursue our individual growth’.

He shares two adopted children – son Oscar, 24, and daughter Ava, 18, – with his ex-wife.

“We are blessed to have had a beautiful, loving marriage together for almost three decades,” the couple said in a statement to People.

“Our journey is now changing and we have decided to part ways to pursue our individual growth.

‘Our family is and will remain our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family goes through this transition.”

The couple tied the knot in 1996 after crossing paths on the set of Correlli in 1995.

An insider previously told ET that there is “no animosity” between the exes.
