Hugh Jackman shares birthday tribute to Deadpool co-star Ryan Reynolds’ mum after his own mother abandoned him at eight years old
Australian actor Hugh Jackman has revealed the close bond he shares with his Deadpool co-star Ryan Reynolds’ mother – after his own mother abandoned him as a child.
On Wednesday, the 56-year-old actor posted a tribute to Tammy – the mother of his good friend and co-star Ryan – on Instagram.
Hugh shared a carousel of photos of himself alongside the year-old and 48-year-old Ryan, after recently admitting he was in therapy to deal with the trauma of his own mother abandoning him when he was just eight was old.
“Happy birthday, Tam Tam!” Jackman started his caption and used the rest of his post to tease his friend by mentioning the names of Ryan’s three older brothers.
“Patrick, Terry, Jeff and I love you so much. And of course your emergency response son, Ray. Rolf…? Ryan?’ the Greatest Showman actor joked.
Continuing the duo’s long-standing commitment to mocking each other, Ryan said, “Blasphemer!” before taking to his own Instagram Stories with a proper rebuttal.

Reynolds reshared Jackman’s post, writing, “I am NOT her emergency room son. My official job description is “emergency harvestable organs.” Just in case she gets appendicitis or her tonsils are no longer viable. I’ll be there.’
Ryan also posted his own tribute to his mother as she celebrated her milestone birthday on Wednesday, writing: ‘Tam Tam is 80!!! I wish my mother the happiest birthday.”
The Free Guy actor shared a video montage of funny moments between them and added, “I still remember the first time I saw her. One evening I sat in the backyard, flashlight in hand, and dozed off. Suddenly she just came staggering out of the shed. It scared me to death’
“Later, I rode my bike and raced away from our arid desert home to a deciduous rainforest that somehow coexists just a few blocks away,” Ryan continued.
“Finally Mom was like, ‘f… it,’ and we flew straight up into the air as she whispered ‘Elliot’ every few seconds in a low moan that was both obnoxious and quite unpleasant. ‘
Expanding on the plot of 1982’s ET the Extra-Terrestrial, he wrote, “Later she waddled back into her spacecraft and left Earth forever, even though I saw her alone four times today.”
‘Congratulations mom. You are the best mom,” Ryan concluded on a sweeter note.
‘We love you. Your grandchildren love you. Most importantly, @thehughjackman loves you.”
Hugh Jackman added a photo of Ryan, 48, posting a tribute to his mother on Instagram, writing: ‘Tam Tam is 80!!! I wish my mother the happiest birthday.”

The tribute comes after Jackman revealed he visited a therapist last year during the filming of his latest film The Son, in which he plays the father of a suicidal teenager, while sessions were offered to all cast members due to the film’s dark themes.
The Greatest Showman star suffered a ‘traumatic’ start when his mother Grace left him as a child to start a new life in Britain.
Hugh’s sisters, Zoe and Sonya, went to live with Grace in Britain; Hugh and his brothers, Ian and Ralph, stayed in Sydney with their single father.
Christopher passed away in 2021 at the age of 84.
“It was traumatic,” Hugh previously told Who magazine, recalling his troubled childhood. ‘I thought she’d probably come back. And then it dragged on and on.
The Hollywood megastar previously said he didn’t believe in therapy, noting it wasn’t as common in Australia, but has now decided it’s time to face his demons.
“It helped me a lot,” he said The sun newspaper in February 2023. ‘With therapy it either works for you or it doesn’t.’
The Broadway star now lives in New York City and finds it important to surround himself with people who will listen to him.

Australian actor Hugh Jackman said he had long made “peace” with his mother (pictured in 2021), adding that therapy had helped him understand how his past influences his current thinking.
‘You need a friend who can unload everything on you. You need that in all kinds of ways, from all kinds of people,” he said.
“It can be very helpful to have someone who is very smart, who is actually a little bit removed from your world. I have found it very useful.’
Although she abandoned him as a child, Hugh revealed why he ‘made peace’ with his mother.
‘I know she had a hard time. She was in hospital after I was born suffering from postpartum depression,” he told Who magazine.
‘And then you add five children to the mix and the fact that she had emigrated from England and there was no support network for her here, plus the fact that Dad was at work all day – and you realize that as parents we make mistakes. .’
Hugh explained that having children of his own with ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness gave him “another level of empathy and understanding” that allowed him to build bridges with his mother.
“There comes a certain point in life when you have to stop blaming other people for how you feel or for the setbacks in your life,” he added.
Hugh and his ex Deborra-Lee, 67, are parents to two adopted children, Oscar, 22, and Ava, 17.
