An ocean expert says the severed foot of missing fraudster Melissa Caddick may have traveled off the Sydney cliffs before washing up on NSW’s south coast months later.

An examination of goose barnacles found at the base showed it probably drifted off the coast of NSW for three to seven days before appearing on Bournda Beach – about 400km from Mrs Caddick’s mansion in Dover Heights.

Oceanographer Dr David Griffin told the inquest into the fraudster’s death that it was entirely possible her body entered the water when she was last seen in November 2020, and then drifted close to the ocean floor in strong gusts for about 93 days. current before resurfacing in February 2021.

Mrs Caddick’s decomposing foot, encased in an Asics shoe, washed ashore on the beach on the south coast of NSW, about 400 km south of Sydney, three months after she disappeared.

“The coast of NSW is the most energetic oceanographic part of Australia,” said Dr. Griffin on the investigation.

“It’s highly unlikely that anything could just float along the continental shelf without being grabbed or hooked.”

dr. Griffin presented his evidence earlier than expected on Wednesday when Mrs. Caddick’s husband was resigned from his second day on the witness stand after saying he could not understand the “confusing” questions.

“Your questions are confusing, the way you talk is not the way my mind works,” Anthony Koletti said.

He spent the afternoon resting out of sight in the NSW Coroners Court building, before his solicitor told the magistrate he was to be assessed before returning to testify.

“We’re going to see someone with him, he might be okay, but we’re not doctors,” his lawyer Judy Swan said.

If Koletti is unfit to testify on Thursday, the inquest will be conducted by forensic psychiatrist Kerri Eagle.

Caddick mainly preyed on friends and family and stole up to $30 million between 2013 and 2020, counsel representing Jason Downing SC previously told the court.

The husband of missing conwife Melissa Caddick says his father called him a toyboy and a creep, even stupid.

Anthony Koletti says he has been unable to find work since his wife’s disappearance, with all potential employers thinking he was either involved in Ms Caddick’s Ponzi scheme or had a role in her disappearance.

“I’ve been described by my father as a ‘bastard’, ‘a creep,’ ‘off***wit’, ‘a toyboy,’ ‘a handbag’ and even as ‘stupid,'” he said in a 110-page report. affidavit filed with the inquest into the presumed death of Ms. Caddick.

Mr Koletti has denied any involvement in her fraudulent activities while testifying to the NSW Coroners Court.

“I saw Melissa working hard every day (except weekends), sitting in front of screens with what seemed to me like the stocks going up and down,” he said in his affidavit.

‘I witnessed graphs and tables. I saw numbers. I just thought she was smart, good at what she did and very successful.’

Born exactly 11 years apart, the Sydney hairdresser and part-time DJ first met Mrs. Caddick as a client at his salon in 2005.

Just before moving to London with her first husband, she and Mr. Koletti shared a kiss in a restaurant.

“We had no (other) intimate contact at this time,” he wrote in his affidavit.

“But I believe Melissa fell in love with me. I fell in love at this moment.’

Then a long-distance digital relationship began between the two, with frequent texts and phone calls for more than five years.

In 2011, Mr. Koletti went on a trip to New York and Cyprus with Ms. Caddick, who divorced her husband the same year.

In his statements before and during the judicial investigation, he has cited contradictions ‘trauma’ and ‘confusion’.

“I hardly leave my house unless I have to, I have lost a good number of my friends,” he wrote in his affidavit.

“I don’t know what the future holds for me.”
