In the long-running gag on the series, Rob Brydon’s character Uncle Bryn looks devious when asked about the infamous fishing trip with his cousin Jason.
Speaking about the show’s huge fanbase, Robert added: ‘I’m amazed at the number of people who say their children love it.
‘I watched it again with my daughter and realized it was actually quite rude. Families argue, laugh and make up. People see themselves in that.’
Reflecting on his last day of filming earlier this year, he added: ‘It was emotional but I thought we finished ten years ago so this is a bonus.
‘The last day was a rollercoaster. When they called Cut, everyone was in tears.”
Last week, the cast of Gavin and Stacey recreated their iconic photo 17 years on, as anticipation builds for the very last episode of the hugely popular BBC sitcom.
In just a few weeks, viewers will be able to watch what happened after Nessa (Ruth Jones), 58, proposed to Smithy (James Corden), 46, five years ago.
In a first look released last week, Smithy and Nessa joined Gavin (Mathew Horne), 46, and Stacey (Joanna Page), 47, for a group photo.
Since 17 years have passed since the original photo was taken, Smithy no longer has a baby face and has a beard.

Ruth character Nessa, meanwhile, is still a big fan of leather, while Gavin and Stacey are in their 17th year of marriage.
In addition to the accompanying photo, major new storylines have been released with the BBC teasing that viewers will finally find out what happened on Uncle Bryn’s fishing trip and that Gavin and Stacey’s sex life has hit a dry spell.
In the series’ long-running gag, Rob Brydon’s character Uncle Bryn comes across as sly when asked about the infamous fishing trip with his cousin Jason (Rob Wilfort), which they both refuse to talk about.
The BBC teased what’s to come: ‘It’s been five years since we got Nessa down on one knee, declared her love for Smithy and asked him to marry us. And a lot has happened since then.
‘In Barry, Bryn is packing up the Picasso, ready for a trip to Essex; Stacey and Gavin are looking for new ways to spice up their seventeen-year marriage, and Gwen is acting very strangely.
‘Nessa has started a new business and Neil the Baby is about to apprentice with his father.
‘In Billericay, Pam is stressed at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by newly retired Mick practicing his golf swings in the living room, and there have been more ups and downs in Pete and Dawn’s relationship.
‘Join us on a journey to Barry and Billericay as we catch up with the Shipmans and the Wests for the very last time and perhaps discover what exactly happened on that fishing trip.’
Filming recently wrapped, with the cast saying their final goodbyes to the show.
Production for the finale began on September 2 and since then the cast has been photographed in a range of locations, including the famous Barry Island in Wales, which is central to the iconic comedy.
One of the major plot points that has emerged appears to be Nessa’s wedding, which could provide an answer to the cliffhanger that ended the 2019 special.
Stars Ruth and James filmed scenes for a wedding last month.
However, the cast itself has yet to confirm whether Smithy and Nessa will indeed get their happy ending.
