Huge explosion at Pennsylvania plant injures three people

A massive explosion has broken out at an industrial refrigeration plant in Pennsylvania, injuring three people.

The manufacturing facility, which may be owned by Johnson Controls, is an industrial conglomerate that makes HVAC and building security systems. Newsweek reported.

The disaster occurred around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the plant at 100 Cumberland Valley Ave. in Waynesboro, near the state’s southern border with Maryland.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined and is still under investigation.

Two of the injured were airlifted to WellSpan York Hospital, and John Hopkins Bayview Burn Center emergency department assistant director Mary Kay Seville said The Record Herald.

The third person was transported by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Maryland.

It is unclear at this time the extent of their injuries.

Thirteen agencies responded to the scene, including ambulance crews and firefighters, and two medical helicopters. According to the news source, the coroner’s office was also expected.

Johnson Controls issued a statement saying that “the safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are actively assessing the situation and working with local response teams.”

“We will provide more information as necessary as we learn more.”
