Huge change coming to Qantas’ in-flight menu

Qantas frequent flyers are in for a treat after the airline overhauled its in-flight economy menu on domestic routes.

Traditional snacks such as cheese, crackers and sweet slices will be replaced by hot dishes to offer something more substantial.

Passengers will instead enjoy a Yummy Karma scrambled egg brioche with tomato sauce, a Handmade Food Co. ciabatta roll with Portuguese chicken and mango-lime jam or artisanal beef sausage rolls from Simmone Logue.

Vegetarians are also catered for, with Sunny Queen carrot and pumpkin fritters, cauliflower snacks or a Mediterranean pizza.

Additions to Qantas’ new in-flight economy menu will be rolled out in the coming weeks

All items contain high-quality local ingredients from Australian producers and will be rolled out on flights in the coming weeks.

“We are continually adapting our menu in response to customer feedback and to improve our inflight dining experience,” said Qantas executive product and service manager Phil Capps.

“These hot menu items are made with quality Australian ingredients and we are pleased to be rolling out a wider choice offering for customers traveling through our domestic network.”

Flyer's favorites should be removed in favor of 'hot items' to offer anything of substance. Those flying longer than 3.5 hours can expect a Weis ice bar

Those traveling on domestic flights of more than three and a half hours, such as Sydney-Darwin or Brisbane-Perth, will also be offered a Weis ice cream.

Qantas is also expanding its tea and coffee offering on afternoon flights until 4pm.

It follows another major change to the airline’s menu last year, which saw meal sizes increase after complaints about portion sizes.

The changes marked the largest investment in Qantas in-flight and lounge dining in the past decade.
