Huge 400-man riot erupts after skate-park party is canceled at the last minute and organizers call on friends to meet there and rampage anyway

A 400-person riot broke out at a Florida skate park after the venue canceled a planned afterparty at the last minute.

The large brawl broke out Saturday evening in the parking lot at Astro Skate in Brandon after frustrated party organizers posted a call online encouraging people to “riot” and “confront law enforcement” at the skate park.

The rampage involved more than 400 people, both children and adults, fighting, stealing and causing damage to local businesses.

A group of rioters caused $500 worth of damage to a supermarket and another group beat a youth before throwing him through a glass window of a nearby barbershop.

Twenty-three juveniles and six adults were arrested during the violent outbreak, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed.

Authorities were called to Astro Skate around 9:20 PM on Saturday after an off-duty deputy reported a large crowd was fighting in the parking lot.

Investigators say the fight broke out after Astro Skate canceled a planned afterparty because event organizers failed to hire an off-duty deputy to monitor the event, according to company policy.

Although the skate park refunded their money, the partygoers were apparently angry and took to social media to ask people to meet at the business and start a riot.

When emergency services arrived on scene, approximately 400 to 500 people were fighting and causing disturbances in the Astro Skate parking lot and at nearby businesses.

Officers issued multiple warnings informing the crowd that they were trespassing and had to leave, but the group continued their rampage.

Smaller groups broke away from the main battle and targeted nearby businesses.

One escape group attacked a youth at the Time Out Barber Shop. He was beaten and thrown through the glass window of the store.

The boy, age unknown, suffered a serious cut to his hand and was taken to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition.

Another group entered a nearby supermarket, stole an unspecified amount of merchandise and caused more than $500 in damage to the store’s wine bottle selection.

The boy who was attacked in the barbershop suffered a serious laceration to his hand and was taken to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition.

After refusing to comply with officers, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a total of 29 people. The six adults arrested were booked into Orient Road Jail and the 23 minors were taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said he is “outraged” by the violence and disruption caused by the group and vowed that “violent and destructive behavior will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County under any circumstances.”

“I am outraged by the violent and disruptive behavior that targeted hardworking people and businesses and caused damage, fear and chaos in our community. Let me make this unequivocally clear: this violent and destructive behavior will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County under any circumstances,” said Sheriff Chronister.

“When responding to a scene as hectic as this, our officers must consider potential danger from every direction. As you can see from the gruesome images, these people had no regard for safety. Our officers had to intervene to defuse the situation professionally and quickly.

The incident is still under investigation.
