HP is reportedly working on a follow-up to its Omen Transcend 16 gaming laptop: the ultra-slim Omen Transcend 14.
Images and a full spec sheet have been leaked Windows report it turns out the machine will weigh about 3.5 pounds (about 1.6 kg) and is less than half an inch thick (18mm, to be precise). The Transcend 16 is significantly heavier in comparison, weighing 4.79 pounds and measuring 0.78 inches thick. Despite the thinner form factor, it looks like HP won't compromise on performance as the laptop may pack a decent amount of power.
It's worth noting that the source of the leak appears to be some sort of press kit. One of the photos boldly claims that this laptop is the “lightest 14-inch gaming laptop in the world.”

The machine will run on one of two Meteor Lake processors, with the more powerful option being the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H. The CPU consists of 16 cores, 22 threads and a memory cache of 24 GB and has a maximum clock speed of 5.1 GHz. It will be paired with one of three NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards – the best being the RTX 4070. Other notable hardware specs include up to 32GB of RAM (just like the older model) and a maximum storage size of 2TB.
Reused design
In terms of design, Windows Report points out that the Transcend 14 shares several similarities with the previous version, although some tweaks have been made.
For example, the left side of the laptop has a single USB-C port next to the headphone jack, while the older model has two ports. The second appears to have been moved to the rear where it shares space with an HDMI input. On the right side you'll find two USB-A ports instead of one.
The keyboard is also slightly different, as the up/down arrow keys have been changed to half keys. Additionally, the trackpad is now in the center instead of sitting a bit to the left.
A gaming laptop this thin can get quite toasty. Judging from the images in the piece, HP takes great care to equip its computer with a robust cooling system consisting of ventilation ports on the back and fans on the bottom. It appears that the Transcend 14 sits on some rubber stands that provide good airflow. There will also be an onboard app that allows users to control the internal cooling system. You can choose to have the GPU fan work harder than the CPU fan while gaming.
Availability
As for the screen, the new model has a better OLED display. It can output a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels (better known as 2.8K), while its 16-inch sibling peaks at a WQXGA resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. We should mention that according to the leak, the Transcend 14 will have a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz; lower than the Transcend 16's refresh rate of 240 Hz. This means that gameplay on the upcoming computer won't be as smooth – at least potentially.
Notable features include Wi-Fi 7 support, a 1080p webcam, and up to 11.5 hours of battery life. No word on when the HP Omen Transcend 14 will launch. However, Windows Report thinks it could make its world debut at CES 2024 in a few weeks.
