How to watch Apple’s iPad launch event in May 2024
The next Apple event takes place on May 7, where we expect a new range of iPads to be unveiled, and pre-orders are sure to follow.
Titled ‘Let Loose’, Apple will livestream the launch, suggesting it will be a significant one, with the Cupertino crew having plenty to show off; We don’t expect much more than new tablets, so be prepared for new software demonstrations, although surprises are certainly not excluded.
The main image for the event shows a hand spinning an Apple Pencil amid a colorful Apple logo, so we expect there will be a focus on using iPads for creativity, likely with a new and improved Pencil. And rumors suggest the Apple Vision Pro will get Pencil support; if so, expect Apple to tout the creation of digital art in a virtual and mixed reality environment.
So read on for details on how to watch the Apple event in May, along with a quick overview of what to expect.
How to watch the Apple Let Loose live stream
Apple’s May event will take place in the form of a livestream. It starts on May 7 at 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm BST, and on May 8 at 12pm AEST.

What can you expect at the Apple May event?
In short: iPads. Going by the rumors so far, we expect Apple to launch an iPad Air 6, which is expected to possibly come with an OLED display, a new M-series chip – likely the M2 chip, but with room for the M3 chip soon – and will come in a new 12.9-inch option for people who want a larger tablet without having to spend the money on a high-end iPad Pro.
Speaking of which, we’re expecting new iPad Pro models. The iPad Pro 2024 modes are planned to continue with the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, but will likely drop the LCD and mini-LED screens of their respective predecessors for OLED panels; these would likely promise better colors and contrast, a boon for digital artists and content creators. As ‘pro’ tablets, we can expect the new iPad Pros to use the M3 chip, with the larger model possibly getting a more powerful M3 Pro slice of silicon.
There are rumors about a new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. The first could have a more laptop-like design, possibly made of aluminum and with a larger trackpad. The new Pencil could have several sensitivity improvements, more gesture options, and better compatibility with third-party apps; furthermore, it could also work with the Vision Pro.
We also wouldn’t be surprised if Apple touted more Vision Pro features and interconnectivity with the new iPads. And there’s room for the likes of a new iPad Air to get a gaming focus, considering the iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Pro chip can run console-quality games and Apple Arcade continues to expand its library.
All in all, the Apple event in May could be interesting. It’s not likely to shake things up as much as an iPhone launch; we will have to wait until September and then the likely launch of the iPhone 16 series will take place. But there could still be a livestream on May 7 that Apple fans won’t want to miss.
